ESPN is reporting they are trading Kirk Hinrich and the 17th pick in tonight's draft to the Wizards. The specifics of what is being sent to Chitown in return aren't known, but it will free up enough cap-space to allow them to sign TWO max guys now, instead of only one.

I'd have rather they gave up Deng instead of Hinrich. Also I think they needed both for sign and trade deals that LeBron and especially Bosh will want. Nice lineup but my goodness get some else to go with them.

People thought that with the Celtics a few years ago that they had nobody to go with the big 3, but it turned out alright because players stepped up into roles.

People hadn't really had a chance to see what Rondo, Perkins, Big Baby could do as they were all really young. Who on the Bulls bench fits that bill? Taj Gibson maybe?

 

Either way the NBA should not have allowed the Bulls or Heat to trade away a player and a first round draft pick for a 2nd rounder IMO. The NBA salary cap is a joke.

With Deng either being dealt to free up more space, to get other role players, or to just have him coming off the bench. Then you would also have Taj Gibson who has been improving greatly, and whoever else they can get as role players. Looks good to me.

The difference between the Big 3 and Boston and this potential team in Chicago is the mentality. I think it worked for Boston because they were aging stars who knew that this was probably their only shot at a title. I don't know if Bosh, Wade, LeBron, Rose, and/or whoever could have that same mentality.

They got the right coach, they got all the cap room in the world, they got some good young pieces. If they could get a couple big players in free agency, it would be quite the ride next year. I wouldn't be handing them the title in July, but they would have to be a huge favorite to at least make it to the NBA Finals.

Either way I don't see him starting for the Bulls next year.

I don't know if the Bulls are the favorite to win the NBA title right now, but I do think LBJ only goes to Miami or Chicago unless Cleveland can pull a miracle sign and trade.

 

If the Bulls get LBJ and Bosh they should win multiple titles. The mentality thing is a tad overrated w/ the Big 3 in Boston. They are all Hall of Famers and they have a top 5 point guard. The only season they were fully healthy they won the title. They got healthy at the end of this year and went to 7 games in the finals. They are really talented. The Bulls in their dream scenario will be more talented and younger w/ less of an injury risk seemingly.

All they've done so far is clear the table to sign two elite FA's. I'll wait until they do before I crown them. And, of course, if Lebron or D-Wade isn't one of them, they won't be a title contender.

You actually expect people to believe that if they add Bosh and Joe Johnson to Deng, Rose, Noah, and Gibson that they won't be a legit title contender?

I just don't see Bosh going there without LeBron or D-Wade.

 

IMO, that line-up finishes them fourth at best in the East, depending on how everything else shapes up. I guess by default that makes them a title contender.
