Julian Tackett Disrespectful (or was he right on) with a big "D"

I'm sure Mac did enough complaining for everyone from HC over the call. You have heard the players take on the coaches personality but in HC the fans have done it over all these years.

For those of you who have not seen the play, click on the link I'm providing.... http://www.wkyt.com/wymtsports

Now under the media player on the right, click the June 15 11 p.m. entry and after a short commercial, the WYMT Sports broadcast from last night will play.

From the angle that the camera footage is shot, I see nothing wrong with the call the umpire made because it looks like the Clay County runner is starting his head-first slide AND the throw was up the 3rd base line just a little bit thus the catcher had come from away from the plate to get the ball...if you'll notice when his left knee touches the ground, it is just outside the right-hander's batter's box.

Yes it was a pretty hard hit but would you have said the same thing if the first-baseman was running down the line to field a ball and the batter collided with him while both were on the first base line?

You're not suppossed to stand on the plate...It was a perfect throw, the catcher was right in front of the batter's box ready to make the tag. Its a shame the Clay County kid lowered his shoulder on the catcher.

I never said you have to stand ON the plate but the catcher was barely in the general vicinity of the plate...the throw was up the line a little bit.

But now that the game is over and the Thorobreds have advanced, let's all worry more on if the young man will be able to play in the game tomorrow instead of bickering over what some are calling a blown call. The HC players and coaching staff are probably not dwelling on that play so the fans shouldn't either. Be proud your team is playing in the next round.

It looks to me like he is lowering his shoulder in this still picture...Most runners when they slide head first have their arms extended.

I'm sorry, but that's baseball. If the kid doesn't like contact don't be a catcher. One kids trying to score and the other is trying to prevent it, nothing more. ON the other hand I would probably be disappointed if the kid just let the catcher tag him as opposed to trying to score. Nothing wrong with the play at hand, the fan seems to be the one out of line.

That's just good baseball.

Its not the Comissioners job to umpire. Down in Maysville wed eject the fan. It's not like the good ole boy coach at Harrison hasn't been ejected before lol. If you hit a home run at harrison he wont even give you the ball for the kid.

I talked to someone that was close to the play, a neutral party, that felt the catcher initiated some contact with the runner.

Yes that used to be baseball and still is the the big leagues. Correct me if I am wrong but did they not pass a rule that if the catcher has the ball he is not to be ran over just to try to dislodge the ball and to prevent the catcher from being hurt?. He is defenseless and has nothing to do with whether he laikes contact or not. If he does not have the ball he is free game. My son who played five years ago was tossed from a league game foe something much less than this. He definately dropped his shoulder with his only intention was to run over the catcher so he would drop the ball.

The Harrison County "knowledgeable" fan was clearly baiting Tackett and was the disrespectful one. This kind of reminds me of the the bully picking on someone and then whining when the person he is picking on hits back.

Riverdog...

Do they give you a basketball when you make a three pointer?

Do they give you a football when you score a touchdown?

Why should you get a baseball if you hit a homerun?

Amen! Go to the store and buy your kid a baseball if you want one that bad. Most likely it was a summer league game too!

He had a clear path to the plate and obviously from the still frame intentionally and maliciously made contact with the Harrison County catcher by lowering his shoulder and running into him. He is making no effort to reach home plate with his hands. There is a slide rule in High School baseball and obviously the Umpire and the Commisioner who is in charge of umpires flips a coin on whether or not to enforce it. Hopefully Hill is okay and can play in the Quarterfinals. The picture speaks a thousand words! Thanks KY Thorobred for the pic. Congrats to the Breds on the 8-0 win.

WOW, some people will get their bloomers in a knot over anything.

I'll go you one better had I been Julian I would have politely asked the fan to leave.

I've been around high school sports for 30+ years and I think Julian will make an outstanding commissioner.

Tackett wasn't polite about any of the conversation. His best move would have been to ignore the fan. To be successful as a commisioner or an umpire you must be thick skinned and not so quick with the smart mouth. You will earn respect then.
