Actually they are not off on their guess. While the No. Ky. Baseball Coaches Association set the dates for the tournament (with input from the Freedom management), the gametime for the finals was originally set for 1:00 p.m. Due to scheduling at the field on Saturday (a non-baseball related event I am told but don't know that for certain) the game time was changed by the Freedom management initially to 12 then to 11 and now back to 12 again. I can tell you that the time issue was a major concern of the coaches at the Regional Tournament draw.

 

I did not say the Freedom had nothing to do with the game time for the finals. What I am saying is the Freedom had nothing to do with changing the tournament from Monday, Tuesday, and Friday to the current Monday, Friday, and Saturday layout. And that change right there is what made the Freedom have to worry about there other events and not just the 9th region. If the days were never changed then we wouldn't be having this start time discussion.

And if you know you are going to be hosting something, you do not schedule multiple events during that same time. The management with the Freedom have no clue how to run a bad semi-pro organization let alone a high school tournament.

The other events were already scheduled for Saturday. The 9th region final was changed by the 9th region to Saturday and the Freedom told them there were events later in the day scheduled. This is not the Freedom's fault as much as you would like it to be statman.

How can the Freedom not be partially at fault here? Do they suffer from amnesia? They know from year-to-year they're going to be contacted to host the 9th Region Tournament, which will bring in far more people to their stadium than a summer youth baseball tournament will. The two years I worked the 9th Region Tournament at CWF, there were some really nice attendance figures (the finals probably had more than most Freedom games but we'll never know cause of inflated attendance figures they like to use for Freedom game BUT thats a whole other topic there). They're not in it for the kids or the parents, they're in it for the almighty dollar so why turn away something that is going to bring in more concession and gate money?

Yes, but to know what goes on behind the scenes there and to see how everyone thinks the Freedom organization is doing such a service to the young men of the 9th Region is what gets to me. Everyone talks about how bad the Hildebrandts did (and yes they did a horrible job there), but just wait until there is no Freedom organization within the next few years. The product they put on outside the playing field is not good at all and the baseball is just as bad.

Maybe just me, but the times of the games didn't bother me all that much. You want to play the tournament at a nice venue like Champion Window, you have to play by their rules to some degree. They may have scheduled them in 2 hours increments, but ultimately they ended up being played more on 2 1/2 hour windows. It's not as if the Freedom people made them play six innings games or otherwise rushed them so as to keep on the 2 hour time schedule.

 

For my money, the more interesting question is why the Mon-Fri-Sat schedule? I would have assumed the schedule was dictated by KHSAA, but I'm getting the feeling it was not. And if it wasn't, who was the person(s) responsible for doing so and what possible reason would he/they have for setting such a schedule? If anyone knows this answer but prefers not to post it publicly, please PM me. I really am curious (as I suspect a lot of other people are).

All right I'll play along. I think they do a great job with their promotions and the whole package is a great value as an entertainment option. Clint Brown has always taken care of me and the groups I have taken there. What is your basis for saying there will be no Freedom organization in a few years? It sounds like you feel you were treated wrong by Clint Brown and the Freedom. Does anyone know how the gate and concessions for the 9th region games is distributed.

There were a lot of people on here complaining about multiple items and you always seemed to defend both BOKC and NKU because you are affiliated with them. We have a very similar situation here and you seem to have joined the other side of the argument due to personal reasons.

The schedule was not dictated by the KHSAA. It is up to the region to determine when they play their games. I guess for the past few years, the 9th is one of the only regions that didn't have a spread out format. So they decided to spread the games out over the course of a few days as to match up with the rest of the state. But I can not tell you who made that decision as I do not know.

I wish the KHSAA would enforce the same set-up for all Regions to make it fair for everyone. Basketball and Football is not as important as Baseball where one Region can use a stud pitcher twice and another set-up may allow him to throw once.

Seems as if we are way off topic now.

 

My experience with the Freedom is similar to Statman, although I have never been employed there. I don't think the baseball is all that good. I like the promotions, but they are tiresome.(too many) As others have said it is a business and I respect that, but they do seem to walk that line of always wanting good publicity, as if they are doing something wonderful for the community. I don't think that organization does one thing without making a buck, and again I don't have a problem with that, but I think they get a free pass from the media as if they are doing something for all of the public. I am sure they are making money on the 9th region tournament or it wouldn't be there.

 

Some of their promotions like letting the kids be on the field before the game with their players are nice, but teams pay for that privilige. If they are making money, then the Freedom will stay, if not, I could see them being sold very easily. Now that doesn't mean they will move.
