May 9, 201016 yr Middleweight bout: Patrick Côté vs. Alan Belcher Belcher defeated Cote via submission (rear naked choke) Heavyweight bout: Kimbo Slice vs. Matt Mitrione Mitrione defeated Slice via TKO in Round 2 Lightweight bout: Sam Stout vs. Jeremy Stephens Stephens defeated Stout via split decision Welterweight bout: Josh Koscheck vs. Paul Daley Koscheck defeated Daley via unanimous decision Light Heavyweight Championship bout: Lyoto Machida vs. Mauricio Rua Rua defeated Machida via KO in Round 1
May 9, 201016 yr Author I guess I am surprised that anyone could get to Machida to KO him considering his style. Let the reign of Rua begin; I can't see anyone in the division beating this guy right now. I know Forrest did it, but I don't think Forrest can do it again. Rua will be champ for a while, IMO. I'm happy Kos shut Daley up. I really hate when guys that haven't done much in the sport talk so much garbage leading up to a fight. Daley was way to one-dimensional for Kos. Kimbo Slice has to be done in the UFC. I honestly think that he may want to go to the WWE or TNA; there will be serious money there for him. I don't think he can be a contender in MMA at heavyweight. Maybe he can try to cut to 205 and see if he can KO guys in that division.
May 9, 201016 yr I thought Shogun would win. I thought he won the last fight. We all think fighters are unbeatable and right now Shogun looks that way, but Machida looked unbeatable for a while as well. Shogun will have tough competition in the LHW division. Anderson Silva might be a challenger now, since he seems bored with the middleweight division. As for Kos/Daley...Daley is a punk. I don't like Koshcheck, but Daley lost all of my respect by throwing that punch after the fight. Kimbo is not good, plain and simple. If the fight goes past round 1, he gasses out. He seems like an OK dude, but he's just a brawler who will never be anything more than a middle to lower ranked fighter. He can't cut enough to get to 205 IMO... He'll get another fight or two with the UFC because a lot of people want to watch him fight. But unless they feed him some poor fighters, he'll probably lose.

I thought Shogun was robbed last time, and left no doubt tonight. Machida got rocked, I loved seeing him helped back to the locker room with that huge ice bag on his busted eye. Everyone had been so scared of him and thought he was the most dangerous guy on the planet (I guess he was for a while) but somebody finally stood up and took it to him, twice. Rua didn't get a fair shot with the UFC audience. He was in poor health when he fought Forrest, and I am glad he returned to form after his knee operations. Everybody was just starting to talk and say the only reason he had success in PRIDE was because of the lack of steroid and PED testing. Hopefully now everyone realizes what most MMA fans have known for a while, that Shogun is a bad dude. That whole Daly thing was crazy, I haven't ever seen anything like it. It doesn't really bother me though, in a way I think its kind of awesome. I mean I know stuff like that doesn't belong in MMA which is all about having respect for your opponent. But after he and Koscheck talked so much trash before the fight, and during the fight, Daly was pretty much just saying Kos took the sissy way out (for lack of a better/usable term). Of course it was very smart for Koscheck to use his wrestling to his advantage, but I think Daly was just mad that Koscheck wouldn't stand and throw with him. I mean they both talked a lot of stuff and each a lot of trash about going to knock one another out, and I think Daly was ready for that type of fight. Hes too one dimensional to have any chance against Koschecks grappling/wrestling, so I'm guessing he was just fumed that he didn't really even have a chance. Both are unlikeable guys, but in a way I like Daly better than Koscheck because he takes it to the limit. Like he really don't care what he does, he just wants to fight. I did like it though when Rogan went to interview Koscheck after the fight and instead of answering the question just gave the Montreal crowd the business. Told them The Penguins were going to thrash them next week and that he was going to beat GSP and give them two losses. The first may happen, the second probably not.

Anderson Silva might be a challenger now, since he seems bored with the middleweight division. Rua was asked about fighting Silva on MMA Today. He said he'd fight anyone, but I would like to see that. I think the winner of Evans/Rampage has the inside track to a title shot. I also wouldn't be surprised the see the end to the trilogy and see Rua/Dragon 3. As for Kos/Daley...Daley is a punk. I don't like Koshcheck, but Daley lost all of my respect by throwing that punch after the fight. Dana White threw Daley out of the UFC after the fight. He said Daley would never fight in the UFC again, he didn't care if he was the pound for pound #1 in the world. Looks like Daley won't be on the UFC scene for a while. Kimbo is not good, plain and simple. If the fight goes past round 1, he gasses out. He seems like an OK dude, but he's just a brawler who will never be anything more than a middle to lower ranked fighter. He can't cut enough to get to 205 IMO... He weighed in for this fight at 225. It isn't that much of a cut to get to 205. If he made the decision to do it, I think he can make the weight. I don't know if that would help, though. He doesn't have the cardio or overall game to be successful in MMA, IMO.
May 9, 201016 yr Author Incidently; for all the criticism ESPN gets for it's MMA coverage through Sherdog, they had a post fight show on ESPN 2 called MMA Today. They had video highlights of the fights and interviews with Shogun, Kos and Mitrione. They also has Ken Flo and Rashad Evans doing commentary. It was a nice post fight wrap up and very well done, IMO.

May 9, 201016 yr I thought Rua was the agressor in the first fight but didn't really do enough to take the title. If the title had been vacant he would have won the first fight IMO, but didn't do enough to take it from Machida. He seemed to respect Machida TOO much in the first fight. Machida seemed content to sit back and counter in the first fight and never really pushed it. I thought this would be a much better fight but was surprised by the first round KO. Not surprised that Rua won jus thtat he did in the manner and amount of time that he did. Kimbo is what he is. Can hit you, but doesn't have the skill to fight a true MMAer. I think Rua/Machida 3 should be next... who else are you really interested in seeing Machida fight? If not then I would like to see Rua/Silva. Silva and Machida refuse to fight each other, so Silva/Rua might be a natural fight next.
May 9, 201016 yr I can't stand Koscheck or Daley. Koscheck had a great acting performance when that knee never ended landed on him and Daley acted like a punk after the fight. I really don't know how Kimbo beat Alexander. His cardio is pathetic to be honest and his knee problem will continue to be like shooting fish in a barrel for other fighters because he does absolutely nothing to protect it. I wish he would have started MMA about 15 years ago and his potential would have been unlimited but he came in way to late in his career to make any noise. I still love the guy though.
May 9, 201016 yr Good night of fights. Rua looked good and did what you had to do to beat Machida, with that said if Rampage doesn't have a ton of ring rust and beats Rashad, Rampage gets the LHW title back........ Kos's wrestling might be enough to give GSP a good fight.
May 9, 201016 yr I loved seeing Machida get knocked out. I can't help but wonder about his chin now. The guy rarely engages...I won't say he runs away, because that's not quite true, but he is very cautious to say the least. Last night is the first time I've seen anyone really take it to him and he didn't hold up very well. Rua landed some nice shots, but they didn't seem devastating to me. I've seen guys take shots that looked worse and weather the storm. But, those things can be deceptive, so who knows? Shogun may just hit harder than it looks, because I didn't think the right hand that to Liddell looked all that devastating and it dropped the Ice Man. Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It would have been unjust to see Rua lose the rematch after getting robbed the first time. Hopefully, UFC will make Machida win a few fights before getting another shot. And, hopefully, Anderson Silva will make a serious run at 205 now that Rua is the champion. That would be an intersting fight. An aggressive, dangerous fighter against the best counter-striker in the sport. A good matchup on paper. No excuse for what Daly did, but I sure wish he hadn't done that. I thought he had the potential to be an entertaining fighter for the UFC. And, I can't stand Koscheck. I can't wait to see GSP dominate him again so he can go back to the middle of the division where he belongs. How about that slam last night on Cote? Never seen one like that before. Looked kinda scary. I think I saw on ESPN last night that Dana said the would probably be Kimbo's last fight in the UFC. I think he saw an opportunity to promote Meltrione with a safe, big name opponent and cash in just a little on Kimbo's name. I'm guessing he's done. He's just not good enough, and I think hb20 is right. The WWE is a good place for him. He comes off as a likeable guy and could make some cash there, IMO.

If they cut Kimbo, CBS and Strikeforce will throw cash at him for 1 fight, Walker vs. Slice on a CBS card = Ratings GOLD...............
May 9, 201016 yr Author http://sports.yahoo.com/mma/blog/cagewriter/post/Kimbo-s-run-in-the-UFC-is-over-White-cuts-him?urn=mma,239667 Kimbo is out of the UFC. UFC president Dana White laid down the challenge to Internet phenom Kimbo Slice and the street fighter accepted it. Kimbo made it through his stint on Season 10 of "The Ultimate Fighter" and got two more fights with the promotion. Slice went 1-1 in the UFC after the reality show, including a bad loss tonight at UFC 113 against Matt Mitrione. The fight was so one-sided, the UFC president decided to give Kimbo his pink slip. "That's probably Kimbo's last fight in the UFC," said White. "Listen, Kimbo made it farther than I thought he would... ...When asked about the "probably" in his original Kimbo quote, White then said definitively that Slice was gone. "

May 10, 201016 yr So, does the winner of Rampage-Rashad get the first shot at Rua's belt? Will Anderson Silva take a run at 205 now that Machida isn't the champion?
