At one safety, Seidel returns. At corner, Abner and Bruns return. At linebackers, Sullivan, Huddleston, Compton, and Quillen return. These guys started some or all games.

 

No starting d linemen return. None of the d linemen who will start this year got much experience last year (we were very deep at senior d linemen last year). If the d linemen develop and come through this year, Highlands D will be very, very good again this year. I'm confident that will happen.

 

Robbie Nienaber played significant snaps on D last year, including the St. X game. He also played some TE toward the end of the year.

True, but based on where he's expected to play this year, I don't think he'll be returning to the LBer position. Hence, I did not list him as a returning starter at the LB or TE position.

I'm somewhat optimistic about the CCH D. Good experience returning.

Very impressed with how Travis performed last year, but they probably lost the best one-on-one open field tackler in Neil Martin.

TDY, I think you may be a little off on this number of returning starter's. Johnson,Dierg,Schneider,Roller,Alford, and Rosenhagen started last year(6). Unless we are going to play some kind of illegal defense those numbers don't add up. It may have seemed like we had 12 or 13 players out there though at one time.:scared:

The Bird's defense will be tough this year with the returning of two of the top hard hitting db's in Austin Abner and Drake Bruns. Lber's Brendon Sullivan, Billy Huddleston, Ben Dressman, and Quillen will be one hard hitting group. I was really impressed with Dressman during spring ball. He's got a nose for the ball and isn't afraid to lay a stick on ya!

What was Neil's number? The player on CovCath's team last year that really impressed me was the Garnick kid. His talent, but more importantly his desire, stood out big time to me.

Neil was #24. I would agree on your assessment of Garnick, he played with high intensity and was probably the biggest hitter of last years DBs. He was also the leader back there so Cov Cath will need someone else to step up in that role.

I think Neil could have played at the DII or NAIA level if he wanted. He has the size and speed. He went unnoticed many times last year because he did such a good job in coverage that teams didn't throw his way. How many games did Buten not catch a pass? Not that Highlands needed to throw very much against CovCath, but Neil did a very nice job in coverage on Buten.

 

Chris Garnick in my opinion is the emodiment of what a High School football player should be. He played every play 110%, cared very little about personnel recognition and was a great leader for his team. Great student, who represented CovCath on and off the field in manner any coach would be proud of. Pound for pound you won't find many better hitters than Mr. Garnick. He is worth the price of admission to the all star game to see him play one more time!

 

He could have played at D3 or NAIA if he chose. However, he has chosen to pursue his engineering degree at UK.

Laugh and mock all you want but SK does return 8 starters on D. Tri-State Sports must have miss quoted Coach Marksberry.(Imagine that a blog getting something wrong) SK's Defense will be their strength throughout the entire year. Their only losses on Defense were Picarillo, Brown, and Kaiser.(All 3 are playing their college ball at Campbellsville.) Miles and Jordan Hansel did not start and only spot played on defense. Baldwin and Lockard will be a load at linebacker. So mock if you will.

I agree with you. I go to a lot of S.K. games. They will be better than most people think this year. I think everyone was just trying to have fun with UKfan36. :isurrender: :isurrender: P.S. I miss him.
