Come on, we're comparing two offensive players here. What do team records have to do with it? How comparable were those team's offensive numbers? I'd venture to guess the Cards had a much better offense both years.

 

Pujols is better than Braun... Not much better offense but better. I don't really see what that has to do with anything.

I would say Braun is the best outfielder in baseball right now. Is he Pujols right now... no. Heck a lot of people don't even know who he is playing in Milwaukee. It will be fun to watch what he can do over the next 10 years. Being in the same conversation as Albert right now... says a ton.

Using Braun's 162 game average of 651 AB's it's only 15.6 more hits. So basically an extra hit roughly every 9.5 games. Not really that much.

Look at the OBP as well. Pujols walks a lot more than Braun.

Actually, looking at the rosters from the Cardinal's 2001 season and even 2002 and comparing that to the Brewer's 2007 and 2008 rosters I'd say very even. Pujols had Jim Edmonds as his best backup power(Big Mac was a shell of himself by then). Edgar Renteria, Mike Matheny (defensive catcher), Fernando Vina, JD Drew were really the only names popping out at me. Scott Rolen just got there in Pujols' second year.

 

Braun had Prince Fielder as his backup power. JJ Hardy, Rickie Weeks both are comparable to Renteria and Vina in terms of abilities. Corey Hart is a former all star I believe. The other complimentary players are so so. Still, team numbers were relatively comparable it seems. Neither team seems overwhelmingly better.
