April 20, 201016 yr They should offer a 5th round pick for Greg Olsen TE from Chicago. If they won't take it offer a 4th. There is grumblings they might take a 5th. This would give them a legit TE and save their 1st pick. If they have a shot at the DB from Texas that's where I'd go with my pick if they would swing the Olsen deal. While the TE from Okl is good he is also a big risk knee wise.
April 20, 201016 yr For the last time the Bengals don't need to waste picks or trading them on a TE. They don't utilize the TE spot enough for it to matter even if they had a good one.

I see your point, but they haven't had a receiving threat on the Oline since Rodney Holman. We really don't know how they'd use a pass catching TE since they really haven't had the player to do so. A good TE couldn't possibly make their passing game worse than it was in '09. We know the running game is the bread and butter of Brat's current philosophy, a good TE could become a major weapon in the play action passing game.
April 20, 201016 yr Author I totally disagree. I understand they haven't used one but IMO it's because they haven't had one. I think if you are an offensive coordinator and use the approach we'll just never use our TE so we don't have to get one then you are playing 10 on 11. Good luck winning that battle. When you have to honor a TE in the passing game it makes players like Chad Johnson and Antonio Bryant a bear to deal with! Hard to double when you have a legit threat down the seam. When you have the hodge podge of TE's the Bengals have had I wouldn't be throwing them the ball much either. I'm not real excited about them spending a first round pick on one. If you are able to move a 4th or 5th rounder on a young guy with Olsens skills then I think you are crazy not to jump all over it.
April 20, 201016 yr Author If you aren't using a TE you better have a couple of servicable WR's like the Pats use in some packages. Right now Cincy is thin there too.
April 20, 201016 yr Author I'd deal a 4th tonight for him. I was suprised that Chi was thinking about shopping him as he is one of the few stable players they have. At this point in the NFL I'm starting to not be as suprised as I used to be though. When you have players like Hayensworth, Taylor, V Jackson that could still be moved Olsen isn't a reach.
April 20, 201016 yr And we won't win consistently without A legit threat of a Te catching threat in the NFL.
April 20, 201016 yr The move I think the Bengals should make...is to hire a new offensive coordinator.
April 20, 201016 yr For the 1 billionth and 1th time, the Bengals don't use the TE. You guys saying the Bengals haven't used a TE because they don't have one are grasping at straws. If the Bengals were so worried about incorporating the TE into the offense, they would have addressed the issue in the past 5-6 years. And please don't give me Ben Utecht. That guy was nothing more than a product of playing with Peyton Manning, Dallas Clark, Reggie Wayne, and Marvin Harrison. If you're a Bengals fan that wants the Bengals to draft or trade for a TE, you like wasting picks and mediocrity. If you actually want the Bengals to improve, you want them to stay as far away from the TE spot as possible until at least the 3rd-4th rounds.

They have had TE's injured, not pan out etc. When you have no talent at TE you don't try to get the ball to TE. When you have no TE or great slot you allow defenses to double cover guys like Johnson or bring more pressure. You aren't going to win vs the big boys playing 10 on 11. You go on to say you would look at TE in the 3rd round. Why in the world would you waste a 3rd rounder on a TE you don't even want when we are talking about possibly getting a proven one for a 5th rounder?
April 20, 201016 yr Author So the Bengals brought in both Utecht and Coffman for their blocking ability? That is funny!

I understand what you all are saying, and you all make a great point. I do disagree with some of it, but I do get what you saying. I do have a question for you two though. We know you don't want them to take a TE with the 1st pick or trade for. However it sure looks like that they probably will draft one with their 1st pick. So since it looks like it will happen, would you rather the Bengals use their 1st round pick on a TE. Or trade a 4th or 5th round pick for like an Olson, and then use their 1st round pick on someone else?
