I know where you're coming from. We've reduced Bump Firing to Thanksgiving, Memorial day and The 4th of July...Had to drop all other weekends.

I am not advocating for a total ban on guns. But I have fully support potential gun owners going through a quick background check & registration process.

 

The government doesn't just let anyone buy alcohol. The government doesn't just let anyone drive a car. That doesn't mean that the people who want to drink alcohol or drive to the mall & back can't do so. You just have to follow a few simple rules.

 

In my opinion, the same should be done for owning a gun (or guns). It's not an irrational fear of guns. It's not taking your constitutional rights away. It's not taking away your only way to fight back against the government. It's simply the best bet to ensure everyone's safety & prevent abuse.

The only problem I have with background checks is that people that shouldn't have guns will rarely fill one out...They will still get their hands on guns just as easy as I can. It simply does nothing to keep guns from criminals. It's just another worthless government form law abiding citizens have to deal with.

If there is a law requiring registration, then you can penalize those who do not register. At some point along the line, the gun should be registered. More times than not, it will be purchased legally at some point. If it's sold illegally down the line, the registration laws will enable authorities to trace its use.

 

If there is no need to trace the gun, then it won't be done. To do so would be an invasion of your privacy & a violation of the 4th amendment.

 

I am still awaiting an answer to my question. I asked once & received my 4 year old niece's answer, "Why not?" I gave it an honest answer. Seems only fair, on a discussion board, that someone would answer my question. How does the right to bear arms protect us from our government?

The guns definitely aren't cheap but the permit to own one isn't that bad.

Actually just to own one isn't that bad. It cost like $250.

Been a while since I priced them but if I recall a couple years ago a true selective fire M14 ran around between $3000 and $5000 plus the $200 tax stamp.

Respectfully, due to your opinion, I would not want you representing me. Although with Obama, there are many reasons for my lack of faith in him as a leader beside the gun issue.

Problem 94 is I think RM, like many, is judging an assault weapon by the looks of the rifle. As you well know, they're no worse than your average hunting rifle and in many cases the hunting rifle is more powerful. It's not her fault though, the left did a heck of a campaign back during the Clinton administration to scare as many people as they could.

I know that in this day and time it seems farfetched that “We the People” would have to rise up against our government. The possibility does still exist though. I’ve heard the arguments about how we would be no match for our military. My father retired from the Air Force, my son is a Navy Veteran and I know several military members and families. With that being said, depending on the circumstances in which the people (Heaven forbid) were to rebel against our government, I can see many commanding officers and servicemen refusing to kill family members, friends and American citizens. I just don’t see our military slaughtering us over a legit revolution.

 

Our founding fathers realized the possibility of government getting over intrusive and abusing its power, and in turn made amendments to the constitution, one of which give us the right to bear arms, no matter what they “look” like. The federal government has no business knowing what kind and how many guns a law abiding citizen may have.

 

If we don’t have the right to bear arms then the possibility of rising up in extreme situations is nearly impossible.

 

I guess the best way I can answer you question is...IF we don't have the right to bear arms, we are pretty much defenseless in most cases. If things were to really turn sour, they could come to your home with one armed government employee and control you and your family. Highly unlikely, but possible.
