Gene Lowe Junior All-Star game from the 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th regions

Featured Replies

There are plenty of All-Star games around the state this time of year. But one of the best events if you are looking from a talent standpoint will be the Gene Lowe Junior All-Star game.

The game pits the top current juniors from the 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th regions on April 29 at Berea College.

Among the top players expected in the event from the 10th Region include Clark County's Robbie Stenzel and Vinny Zollo, Mason County's Treg Setty and Deming's Kyle and Luke King.

Tates Creek's Ryan Fucci and Marcellus Barksdale are top players from the 11th Region.

No Jordan Gilbert!?

There are times when you just gotta shake your head about the way things play out in the 10th Region. Gets me in trouble every year when I say that the 10th is so small school oriented that when awards are voted on by the coaches etc very good players at the larger schools are left out because smaller schools play each other multiple times and tend to vote for each other.

Kings are nice players but Gilbert at Mason Co, Daniels, Rogers, and Purvis from GRC are better players. If Pawsett from Mason Co is anywhere near 100% he is a better player.

Not sure how the players were selected. Anyone with any knowledge of this?

Gilbert was not on original roster? However, players could probably be added if others declined the invitation.

I agree with the bolded. That being said, this junior class in the 10th has so much talent it could have its own all star team.

I agree, :thumb:

My understanding is that 10th Region coaches voted on this....

What about other regions? Such as the 9th, 8th etc. how did they only pick those regions?:idunno:

Hard to sell tickets to locals if kids from across state they have not heard of are playing. Who want to drive that far to play in a game with a couple of hundred people there in the middle of the week on their own dime?

Middle or the week, or even weekend. As someone said in another thread, a lot of these all star games are only a big deal to those who put them on, don't get me wrong, they may be nice, but they are about a dime a dozen now.

This is the fourth Jr all star game I am aware of this month, they just don't have the appeal, I even think that the KY Jr all star game Vs Indiana is not going to happen this year, and it just start last year. Too many of the good players are playing on AAU/Club teams this time of year to play in most of these events, some players will turn them all down, some may pick one, but most want to play with their AAU/Club team this time of year.

I agree these are big deal and a lot of players turn down invites. I think it used to be that seniors could only in 2 of these games, while school was in session. What is the rule now for seniors and juniors?
