Growing up Catholic, we attended mass weekly and went to Easter mass.

Now that I've married into a "really" Catholic family (ie priests and nuns in the family) we have always attended Holy Thursday mass, the Good Friday service and Easter Sunday mass.

Which are you? My former Catholic life or my current Catholic life?

I used to be your current life. I would occasionally attend Holy Thursday mass. I'd always attend Good Friday services down at Mother of God. Then, of course, we'd attend Sunday Mass for Easter.

Now that my mother does not drag me to mass with her, I only attend Easter Sunday mass.

Correct. I assume "service" is correct?

Sure. I just was sayin....

Nothing at all to do with what you posted, just answering the question.

Sorry for the confusion.:thumb:

I do a Good Friday service and the Easter Vigil Mass. I love the ceremony of the first Mass for Easter as well as the initiation of new members of the Faith.

I've not been a particularly good Catholic since leaving the nest, but growing up we always went to Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday services. We usually didn't go to Easter Sunday mass and would instead go on Saturday so that we could head down to my grandparents' for the big family Easter Sunday dinner.

As a child (through 18yo), I always was bored by the formulaic repetitiveness of the regular weekly mass, but always loved the lenten masses and the Holy Week services because it was a change in the format from the standard 45-minute, wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am regular masses ("Ordinary Time?").

Even when really young and not capable of understanding exactly what was going on, I could always tell the Holy Week masses were much more special, and could usually fight through my ultra-short attention span to remain riveted and tried to soak up as much of it as possible, even though the Holy Week services tended to be much longer than the regular masses.

Even today, though I only infrequently attend masses, I always try to go to as many of the Holy Week services as possible.

Do all Christians have the same services? I was raised Catholic and I gave up on that faith years ago. Now that the Pope is being investigated by the cops I'm glad I did. I still wonder though does everyone do this?

I just completed the RCIA program and was welcomed into the church on Holy Saturday. I attended Chrism Mass at the Cathedral on Tuesday, Holy Thursday, and Easter Vigil on Saturday night. I really enjoyed each of them and their unique qualities. It was a great experience. I will more than likely do the same next year and attend Thursday and Saturday.

What a special Easter season for you! Welcome, RC!
