Stayed and watched Fairview vs Fleming Co game for two Qtrs. Fairview is BIG. They play hard and have some speed. But they were making lots of mistakes on both sides of the ball. Fleming Co. didn't impress me much. The QB on offense is everything to them. But on Sept 3, I will treat them like they are state champs. Fairview will be good. Not many home grown kids on this 2010 team. Kids from Ashland, Boyd Co, Russell, Huntington, WVA. ect. Sounds like and looks like a Pikeville College or KCU roster!!!:eek: Watch out for Fairview if they iron out the mistakes!:scared: Sorry I forgot to say they also have kids from Fairview.:lol: #44 Hard nose runner.

I agree on # 44 from fairview, very tuff kid not afraid to lower his shoulder.

I noticed on several plays the Rams big DT would stand straight-up and look for the ball rather than plugging a gap, looked to me as if he was playing like a LB.... haha "the o-linemen always want to carry the ball & the d-linemen are always looking for INTs"

The Good:

I think Scotty Craft was one of the biggest surprises for the fans. He played very well, laid out of one TD catch. He is a new man this year. Farley's only blemish was the INT. He played very well for the first time on the field this year. The run defense was good. Brian Caudill was as good as ever and will have to be the face of the Raceland defense.

 

The Bad:

Pass defense. Run blocking, still has a ways to go.

 

The Ugly:

Special teams - God they have got to get better.

Who were the standouts for West? I could not make the game for a few different reasons, though I really wanted to say hello to the Raceland members of the board since there seem to be quite a few. I'll have to catch a Raceland game at some point this season.

 

Raceland's defense really never stopped West except on their first series. West had 11 offensive penalties, and turned the ball over 4 times. Stamper had a few good catches and a TD. McGlone had a 50yd INT for a TD. Bond looked great running the ball, had a few ankle breaking moves against Raceland's LB's. But he had a great run towards the end of the game where he fumbled on the 3yrd. line with no Raceland's players making any contact with him. West played very sloppy, which makes me feel good that we can play terrible and hang in the game with a good team. Very impressed with the pass blocking just not the penalties from the O-Line.

Half way threw the 2nd quarter I took notice of the penalties WC was racking up and thought to my self this may have been a different outcome if WC played more error free, they basically shot themselves in the foot with the mental breakdowns. You are right the Ram's D did not stop WC, WC stopped themselves.

Pic-six, I think if you look at some of my earlier post. I didn't give my own team to much praise. I didn't mean to single out just Fleming Co. I think in earlier post that Fairview was playing sloppy. And Racelands special teams, offense run blocking and pass defense was going to have to improve alot. I think I did say that Fleming's QB was very good and seemed to be the offense of the team. He wasn't getting any pass protection. The QB would scramble and get 1st downs when needed. You are right all four teams have alot to work on. Sorry if you thought I was only picking on Fleming Co. I think they in time could be a very good team. Fleming has size up front and a quality QB.

RACELAND — New coach, new approach?

 

Well, sort of.

 

T.J. Maynard stepped in as the head coach of the Raceland Rams after veteran coach Randy Vanderhoof decided to step down from the position in June.

 

With the rest of the coaching staff still intact, and with the familiarity surrounding Maynard’s style, it’s not much different for players.
