Christian County 70 Newport 51

Great season by the Wildcats - Congratulations!

Christian County was just too quick, not too deep. I think they only played 7 boys, maybe 8. Good luck to them!

CC's press killed Newport. Even this non-basketball guy was surprised by Newport trying to dribble through the press and allowing 2 or 3 CC defenders to collapse around the ball handler before he attempted to pass it. I'm sure Newport prepared for it, but Newport's inablility to handle the press was the deciding factor in my opinion. Don't know Newport's second half shooting percentage but it seemed that, until fairly late in the game when Newport started forcing their shots, when Newport broke the press and actually got a shot off, they were pretty successful in making a basket.

Congrats Wildcats for a great season and for making the Sweet 16. I'm sure it will be something you remember fondly for the rest of your lives. :ylsuper:

Great pictures D series, the expressions from the crowd are great on the Luther trampoline jump. Keep up the good work.

To Newport, fantastic season and one I hate to come to an end. Good luck in all you guys do in the future.

I have no clue how Newport beat Holmes, just don't see how.

Holmes couldn't hit the broadside of a barn with a shotgun from 10 feet. Newport didn't miss a thing and out hussled Holmes the entire game.

Hopefully! (If they get by Corbin)

Scott County is about the most uninspired, undisciplined, undeserving team thus far in the tournament.

Pretty powerful comment since they beat a team by 19 that they had only previously beaten by 10 earlier in the season.

Sounds like some "Hater" ade

Congrats to the Wildcats on a special season....you should be proud of all you accomplished on and off the court. What you have done for your school and your entire community is immeasurable and what you have gained for yourselves; great memories & sense of acheivement, will last a lifetime.

To a fine group of young men and Coach Russell........my hat's off to you!

For my buds Cody & Casey...much love and use this experience as you strive for success in the future !

Yeah I have saw both play, but if Holmes plays with any kind of emotion they win. Foster was a good player for Newport though.

I have saw both teams play, Holmes was clearly the better team, BUT Newport wanted it more.:ohbrother::thumb:

As to Holmes vs Newport, paNDA described it. You know how people will say that a team might beat another team 2 out of 10 times? Well, the regional final was one of those 2. Newport played great and Holmes didn't. But don't let that take anything away from Newport. They are an excellent team and had a great season.

Chirstian County is looking like a force to be reckoned with. Could they win it all? What shortcoming do they need to avoid to win it all? How would they be if an opponent coulod handle their press and make it more of a half court game?

I watched Holmes humble Newport at Christmas, Holmes came in totally over confident at the Regional final and it snowballed on them. Newport was much better then the Christmas tournament showed and it turned out to work in their favor. Regardless of what the coaches told the players they(the players) thought this was a gimme.

Newport was a very good team and earned the right to go to Rupp, on the night of the Regional final they were much better than Holmes. It was one of the most lopsided games of the entire tournament.

Holmes had a bunch of talent and for some reason never really dominated during the 09/10 season. I have no idea why but all season long they played to the level of their competition, until the Regional finals where they fell far short of Newports game.

Christian County can't shoot. So if you can keep them from getting in the paint and to the rim, handle the press, and even score a few in transition, they are certainly beatable. With that said, they are athletic enough they certainly could win it all.

Which again speaks to how huge of an upset it was for Newport to beat Holmes in the region.
