Talent Level = Size of School?

Featured Replies

Hazard High has an enrollment of 290 in 9-12 and seems to be competitive for their size. I think is has to do more with the time and effort put into a program and the establishment of good feeder programs. The establishment of a good feeder program may take years but in the end can be worth it for a school to be competitive.

The All A Classic uses its own numbers and has nothing to do with football classifcation.

I don't know if anyone remembers, but it actually started in 1990 on the state level by using KHSAA football numbers.

There are other things to factor in besides enrollment numbers regardless of where you are in the U.S. What type of school is it, public or private? What is the area like, big city, rural? What is the climate of the area, cold snowy winters or warm sunny winters. All these things play into the amount of talent that comes out to play basketball.

Montgomery County should be loaded enough to continually field good athletic teams across the board, but to my knowledge have not done even average in any sport, except girls basketball. Correct me if wrong and what is the reason. Are their feeder programs in all sports really weak?

If it takes 5 straight trips to the State Tournament to be considered "average" then I guess your take is correct.

They have made five straight trips in something other than girls' hoops?

Yea i was going to say isnt Shelby Valley and Newport 1A schools. They played in the tournament so in that case they are 1A so that makes 2 1A schools in the sweet 16.

Then your are basically saying in basketball there are 2 classes 1A and 2A.

Nope but I'd argue that if that is the standard for being "at least average" then few schools around are average.
