My mistake. Still an eternity ago in terms of a high school season. They've improved tremendously since then, and aren't like your typical NH team in terms of disciplined play.

Mason County has a little of that extra emotion to play for as well. Their team manager was recently diagnosed with cancer and has just returned from seeing a specialist in Boston for this tournament. He will return to Boston the week following the tournament for surgery. Good Luck Royals!!!!

I would say nobody is overlooking anybody at this point. Getting there means you're one of the best 16 (in theory) in the state. Should make for an exciting tournament!

Waldo, you can't make any statements about MC without them taking offense. I agree with you the guards carry the team and it will be hard for them to put on a much better show than they did in the regional finals.

 

Agree on all points. I am sure that Coach O'Hearn will have the Royals ready.

Mason will win easily by 10-15 points.

Disagree. Setty, Gilbert and the Langs will be too much for NH. Look for Bluford to have a big game. Mason Co should win by 15+ in this game. With the draw, Mason Co should be playing Saturday morning.

Setty is going to have step up. His play in the region was minimal at best. He has a long way to go to catch up with his brother. I thought he would be great this year but from my perspective he hasn't improved much from last year.

Mason County may have gotten a near-perfect draw and could find themselves in the State Championship game as a team that most thought wasn't even the best in their Region.

 

However, this is the first step in that journey. Thoughts?

Is the state really this weak? This is the weakest team Mason Co. has had for years they just put it all together at the right time in the Regional.

I agree on the Setty stepping up comment. He needs to play well and more importantly stay out of foul trouble. They need him on the floor for his length on the defensive end and shooting ability on the offensive end.

AndOneDad- Putting it all together at the right time is what you have to do at tournament time, otherwise your sitting in the stands watching. I agree this is not the strongest team Mason Co. has brought to the state tournament but they are a very unselfish group and have battled injuries this season. They don't have that marqee player that they have had in the past. This team is very balanced and plays hard on the defensive end. They have had trouble scoring at times this year but have never lacked in effort.

Anytime you avoid Ballard and Scott Co in the early rounds you have to consider it a good draw.
