Preachit Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Those kids work so hard and play well for such a small school. This is the second time that I can remember that Gallatin has lost the regional game by one bucket. Shelby beat them two years ago.

But, as I stated in another thread, this has got be getting to him. You mentioned two years ago and the tough loss to Shelby County. I also remember the '99 team that lost in OT in the opening round to Bullitt East. That may be the best Gallatin County squad of the three (not to diminish the talent/effort of the other two). Heartbreaking is all I can say.

They were 29-2 going into the bullitt east game. And they didnt exactly have a cakewalk schedule either. But im sure that even with the heartbreak Jon is having, he is already at home trying to figure out another way to get to Rupp.
Icanscore Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 I was very impressed with the coaching and the kids from GC. Well done!!
madman Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Coach Jones does a great job at Gallatin and the kids give their all. They have been snake-bitten a few times but eventually they will tame that snake.
robert-crumb Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 What a great program. The fan support is as good if not the best in the 8th region. I have no ties to anyone in the program but enjoyed taking my family to a lot of the games this year and plan on it again next year. Congratulations to the players, coaches and parents. It takes all to create a program as good as this one. Definitely have created something to be proud of down there.
Snappy502 Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Totally agree with what has been said on here, never have been to a Gallatin County basketball game in my life but it seems every year I find myself on BGP checking their scores just hoping they can pull off the miracle! I put them right up there with Elliott County and those schools, these stories are what make KY high school basketball so special! What was the last time they went, 1959 I think?
Mack The Knife Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 For what it's worth, and it may not be much, but during GC's 5 year run only one player has gone on to play at the next level. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Someone correct me if I am wrong. I don't know if you're right or not, but I think this might be Coach Jones' best coaching year. In the past, he's had some "superstars" (Dewayne Webb, Kyle Booth, Trent Maddox) that have helped anchor his teams. Some probably had more individual talent than this year's squad. But for him to do what he did this year, with a player not over 6' on the squad, really says something to me. The concept of "team ball" was never more evident than this year. Seemed like every night there was somebody else that stepped up and made the "big play".

Year in and year out he does more than most of the supposed big schools with talent that may not always be the best.
True blue (and gold) Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 Correct me if I am wrong I don't think Coach Jones has ever won the coach of the year in the 8th region. Year in and year out he does more than most of the supposed big schools with talent that may not always be the best. This is an honor that he certainly deserves. Your second sentence is definitely true.

funtowatch Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 For the size of Gallatin's school and the talent they have to choose from, I would say Coach Jones has done one heck of a job on building a program. Correct me if I am wrong but I believe they have been to the region semi's 3 of the last 4 years. Thats impressive.
