After reading some of the other posts, I was wondering what is the history of the 10th region? I know a little about it from the days when I played, but was just wondering about its history... who were some of the teams, coaches, outstanding players.

I remember Allen Feldhaus at Mason County, Julian Cunningham at Bath, Clark, and Montgomery County. Some of the players were Craig Summers at Bourbon County, Al Blevins at Mt. Sterling, Bruce Jones and Jeff Wilson at Bath County, Eugene McCaferty (sp) at GRC. I can't remember but I think at one time MMI had one of the top players in the state but his name slips me.

Alonzo Linner?

Some interesting things that I found while googleing Alonzo Linner:

The KHSAA puts Tollesboro on probation because Coach Harlan Tolle and some of his players gave “considerable verbal abuse” to referees during the Tollesboro-Deming game 1958

No. 1 Clark County, led by Paul Smith’s 20 points, runs its record to 19-1 with a victory over Scott County. 1958

Maysville’s James Smith returns from a leg injury to score 31 points, and teammate Fred Walker has 34 in a victory over Johnson Central 1972

Alonzo Linner of MMI is avearging 28.5 points and 12 rebounds 1981

Some more:

Ron Handshoe has 19 points and Eric Williams has 17 as Clark County beats Mason County in the 10th finals. The Cardinals shoot 61% percent (22 of 36) from the field 1986

Dennis Custard hits a 10-footer and his brother Billy sinks two free throws in the closing seconds of overtime as Harrison County beats Bath County 48-45 in the 10th finals 1976

( I had forgot about all the Custards that went through Harrison County.)

If you're looking for more from the Mason County side, check out this blog:

It's all about the history of the Royals, since this is their 50th season.

I pulled this from your blog and thought it was fitting for today:

1985: Chris O’Hearn scores a career-high 32 points in a 74-51 win over Montgomery County in the first round of the regional tournament

I will take no credit but linking it. Danny Weddle has been a one-man machine for that blog.

I was there for Mason Co.'s first regional title, when they beat Clark in 1981. They had fallen short a few times before, so the MC faithful were understandibly stoked that night when they finally kicked down that door. It probably didnt help that even after Mason consolidated, their rivals Maysville, a much smaller school, were still winning region titles on a somewhat regular basis. The next year, I was there when they beat Paris for the title, which made them 30-0.

I was there for Maysville's last regional title, I think they beat Montgomery in the late 80s. I was in college at that point. I was probably at that Harrison-Bath game, but dont remember details. I think they met in the finals multiple times if I am not mistaken. I vaguely remember Bath Co and Maysville playing in a title game that I think Bath won on a last second shot. Yes, when I was growing up, I always thought of Bath Co as a 10th region powerhouse. :thumb:.

I know the split session deal isnt a very popular subject around here, but I always thought it was cool to leave right after school from Wed through Friday and go to a game with it still being daylight. I dont know why I liked it so much, but I did.
