Right or wrong. Interestering though that the player automatically gets the T without a warning but the Coach should get a warning. If anything I give this ref an A+ for following the rules of the game and enforcing them without bias and thinking twice. Good for him, I get sick and tired of all the double standards that go on in sports. If rules are enforced consistency then you would probably see fewer rules broken. :thumb:

You shouldn't get a warning at this point in the season, as a coach should know what is acceptable and what isn't by now...

 

 

 

 

I'm not going to say the Boone County bench should/shouldn't have gotten a technical foul against them, but you could just sense it was coming with how upset they were at some of the calls that were made.

 

Of you go by what the KHSAA PA Sportsmanship Statement says, the officials have been instructed not to issue warning in the case of the taunting, which is what I specifically heard the official say when he reported it.

 

Below is what I read before each and every HS game I do PA for in Kentucky, and it come directly from the KHSAA Web site.

 

"The Kentucky High School Athletic Association requires officials to enforce sportsmanship rules for athletes and coaches. We will not tolerate negative statements or actions between opposing players, especially trash-talking, taunting or baiting of opponents. If such comments are heard or actions seen, a penalty will be assessed immediately. We have been instructed not to issue warnings. Let today’s contest reflect mutual respect."

Whenever I watch Holmes play it seems that I always see 2 different Pittmans. Pittman number 1 dominates and takes over games with his athletic ability and no one can stop him. Pittman number 2 so very often appears to have a low IQ for basketball and takes ill-advised or off balanced shots in the course of the game at the wrong times. I know that some will not appreciate my comments about Pittman number 2, but if he can get his IQ to equal the athletic ability of Pittman number 1, then I think we'll see one awesome player. Lucky for him, Pittman number 1 is that good and can carry him until he does. Mr. Basketball? No way. If the judges were to give it to him, I would also have to question their basketball IQ. Ricardo is a much smarter player and more deserving. I think Rice could use a little schooling in that department as well. That urge to pop a shot just because the ball is in his hands and even when not in the proper position to do so is of no help to the Dawgs and could ultimately be to their ruin. Maybe not though. The Bulldogs have shown that they can dominate regardless of whether they play smart or not. For my money though, I get more excited about a team headed to Rupp that has all the elements of a good team together, not just some of them. That being said, I think Newport has the edge over the Bulldogs in playing smarter. Whether or not they can prevail over the Dawgs is still to be seen. As a 9th Region fan, I'd have no problem with the Wildcats having a shot at showing the rest of the state just what a fine team they have become.

Spoken like a true homer. Pittman is just a kid. He should be able to play the game he loves without being criticized by the likes of you. Talent wise he is among the very best ballers in the commonwealth. The past three years have proven this out. I'd also have to question some parts of this post.

 

1. You say Pittman lacks basketball IQ but I'm pretty sure he picked up his 3rd foul midway through the third quarter but still was able to stay on the court and not sit, because he was smart defensively. That's high basketball IQ, IMO.

 

2. I question how many times you've actually seen Holmes this year. I'm going to assume not very often because if you have seen them as much as me, you'd know that Pittman is averaging 18 ppg because he stays down on the blocks and doesn't wander outside as much as he did last year. He had an off shooting night tonight but still poured in 18 ppg and pulled down 9 rpg. I'd hate to see what this kid is like when he plays "smart basketball with a high IQ." To say Pittman doesn't deserve the award is very disrespectful to that young man.

 

3. Check the stats on Rice last night. You'll notice he didn't even shoot that much. And when he did shoot, it was down low. Sure he had one or two turnovers but what player doesn't make mistakes? They're high school kids. Nobody is perfect.

 

4. You can point out all the weaknesses you want with this player or that player, or Holmes as a team. But the bottom line is, despite all these weaknesses that this group supposedly posseses after every game, they continue to win. I believe some of the same things were said about Holmes last year as well.

As far as the game:

 

Elijah Pittman and Ricardo Johnson were the difference.

 

Ricardo got Holmes off to a quick start in the first half and Pittman sealed the deal down the stretch with a personal 6-0 run to put the game out of reach after Boone made their run.

 

With Holmes down one, Pittman scored down low to give them the lead. On the next possession, JJ missed a shot but there was the big fella to clean it up with a put back jam. After receiving a tech, he responded with another bucket down low to give Holmes a 46-41 lead.

 

Pittman was 5-5 on his last 5 shots and ended up with 12 points during that stretch.

Was there a National Anthem?:confused: I was there for the CCH/Newport game as well and don't remember there being a National Anthem in between games. I must of been sleeping like some bitter old guy....:laugh: 20n10:thumb:
