I would assume the 9th region even is better and more fan friendly this year becuase the 10th region tournament is back where it belongs thus lessening the confusion. I don't believe two tournaments can be at the BOK at the same time and it's not fair to either fans of the respective tournaments/schools for it to be.

 

Now I and many others would disagree. Being able to watch more basketball with the 9th and 10th combined was great! SOME people complained about the drive, but if I recall, one of the biggest student section from last year, at least the 10th, was Montgomery Co, who I believe had the longest drive.

I know high school boosters/parents work PBS concessions during Bengals games and make money for their respective school teams. Why couldn't boosters/parents volunteer at BOK to keep prices down? Ex. Boone/Holmes parents could work during the first game tomorrow night, and CCH/Newport parents could do the same during the second game. Just an idea to try to get concession prices reduced.

 

I think TAC is correct, they do use groups to work the concessions for all events at the BOK, as the Reds and Bengals.

 

I don't mind paying a little extra to help these organizations out who have people volunteering their time at these events, I don't think it would be a good idea to leave these groups out in the cold. I still think everyone can still make enough without charging $3 for ONE coney! $2 is my limit on a coney, I don't care how good it is. Of course I didn't go on the other side of the arena to the concessions there, but it did not seem like they had as much to offer as last year?

How many people go to reds and bengals games? Or been to an event at US Bank arena or other entertainment venue? Stop complaining about concession costs, you should know what to expect when you go to a bigger venue like BOKC.

I'm pretty sure they use volunteer groups to man the events at BOK. the 'workers' donate the money to their perspective school or charity. Granted it is a cost added to the food, but also an opportunity.

 

While yes they do have some volunteers most are college students. I don't know the ratio of volunteers to actual employees but most of them are college kids working on campus.

I spoke to Mr Madrick this evening and he loved the idea of the Half time stuff with the students and the singing of the National Athene again by the students. Look for those things to happen next year.

 

The program is another matter as he felt it was too hard to get it done in such a short time, when they have trouble even getting a roster out of some of the schools!

Why should the 10th have come back this year and played second fiddle to the 9th? Didn't really like the format of the 10th last year. It was like the 10th had to be rushed in order to accomadate the 9th region last year. Had to play all first round games in one day. Could not even split into two sessions because they had to play the 9th region girls final on Sat. night. I believe the first game started at like 10:00 in the morning. Then the finals played before the 9th on Tuesday night. Mason County could not hardly celebrate for being rushed off the floor so the 9th could get there game started. The BOKC is a first class facility. But, the 10th region will always be treated as a second class citizen to the 9th. I think the 9th region should continue to use the BOKC. Just don't think its a good fit for the 10th IMO.

I say we have Theoldguy dig up one of his coffee cans he planted in the back yard and pay to have quickchange perform at halftime of the final game!

Wrong! I believe there was an agreement that if the 10th did come back this year, they would get the second time slot for the boys championship game, switched from last year.

 

Myself, Theoldguy, and I am sure several others, watched every single boys 9th and 10th regional game last year, I think theoldguy watched the girls as well. I LOVED the idea of having all first round games the same day! I was a great day of basketball!

School in the 9th should care about their sports a little more and get a "current" roster to the people that need to print it as soon as they make it to the district final. It's not hard to do, and the 10th had no problem with their schools providing the information.

As seen on several threads recently, change is not met with open arms in good ole Kentucky. Perhaps there is nothing wrong with the way it was but when you step on the floor at Rupp you really need to have experienced the college arena to be on par with many of the other qualifiers.

I agree that concession prices are high. But, in fairness to the BOK arena, this problem is not exclusive to them. A 3 minute spot check of current threads on BGP reveals an entire thread devoted to concessions at the Mason County Fieldhouse (mostly critical), the Arena @ Corbin (concession prices are outrageous), etc. etc. If I had another couple of minutes, I am sure I could find similar sentiments expressed throughout the state. I like the BOK's general admission seating, rather than last year's format of a ticket placing a fan into an assigned seat. The BOK staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The only suggestion I would have after attending Wednesday's games would be to not place opposing team fans, students and bands adjacent to /behind the bench. St. Henry's fans and St. Henry's band were behind Cov. Cath's bench. The St. Henry contingent was, as always, very classy so it was not a problem. Under different circumstances it could be. A thread from the 10th region tournament is chock full of complaints against opposing team fans seated behind the bench disrupting time outs, etc. Otherwise, I would give the BOK arena an A+.

 

I have to question the bolded. I think I got three 20 oz drinks for $4.50. I wouldn't think that that is too bad considering you would pay a $1.50 for a pop at any vending machine in town.
