Honestly I did not want to have to take the time to do all of that. All I intended in this thread was to give an opinion. However, as soon as I did I was jumped on by every angle imaginable and was getting called out for things that wasn't true. Thus, I had to do more work then I intended on doing just to prove some of the things I have an opinion on have more truth to them than some people want to believe. If you do not want to believe most scientists, especially elite/high level scientists are atheist/prognostic because you yourself are a science teacher, then that is fine. But please don't act like I am wrong and try to say there's no way its true until you done the research. I supplied one survey suggesting so, and trust me there is many more out there. Basically this whole debate has been over you not agreeing or believing in my opinion, so you just call me out and say everything is wrong or not possible. Thus I had to put in extra time to show how it could be possible for something I feel could happen, and if it doesn't then oh well. It's nothing I lose sleep over, believe me.

Strange that a couple of the things you asked me to document and prove (one the percentage of scientists who are non believers, more importantly percentage of elite scientists) ended up coinciding with what I was stating to be true and not what you argued. Again, I don't care if I am right, I am done arguing. I just have an opinion on the subject, but it just feels like to me that since you disagree with the subject it makes everything you say right and everything I say wrong. Well, like I said, I don't care if I am right, and I try not to claim everything I said was right and everybody else is wrong, I simply just have an opinion and I understand I may be the only one that has that opinion. I haven't debunked all of the information that you have presented. I've only just begun to do so. I don't care about that, you can read earlier in the thread where I complimented Aiden on the work he put in to give his opinion. What I am against though is someone trying to act like I am totally wrong about everything I say just because they have a differing opinion. I realize everyone has a different opinion no matter what the topic is. I embrace other peoples opinions, so much so that sometimes it later influences mine. I think everyone should have an opinion on something, and not just go with the crowd. However, what I don't like is when someone states an opinion is wrong and there's is right when it wasn't even anything about that to start with.

Among leading scientists defined as members of the National Academy of Sciences, 72.2% expressed disbelief and 93% - disbelief or doubt in the existence of a personal god in 1998.[12]

I am debating the issue, not you. If you are taking it personally, then that is up to you. It's not likely that you will change your opinion (documented by your own words and using scientists that you know little about to back up your opinion.) Again, that is not my focus here. I'm going to alleviate the fears of those people that are being worried by the pseudoscience hype that many want to promote. This is not the first 'doomsday' that I have had to debunk and I'm pretty sure that there will be a new one in 2013. After all, Nostradamus did predict that the world would end in 3797, too. :sssh:

He was very spot on with hundreds of his readings ranging from many different topics and subjects. Add that to a couple ancient type peoples, who had no contact with each other, along with other "coincidences" that state something is to happen around that time frame then to me that is a notion that it is very possible something could happen. I've asked this question before, but do you think all of these are just coincidence?

What others have done here is to challenge you to support these assertions.

A recent survey conducted by Elaine Ecklund of Rice University found that approximately 38% of scientists do not believe in God. This survey was conducted in 2004 and is on-going.It would seem, then, that according to this survey, more scientists DO believe in God than those that do not. This is why I always do my own research and don't simply let what others say influence my beliefs.
March 2, 201016 yr Why Nostradamus isn't credible support for a 2012 doomsday: Normally, wikipedia in and of itself, isn't the best source, but here they put things in great perspective: Most academic sources maintain that the associations made between world events and Nostradamus's quatrains are largely the result of misinterpretations or mistranslations (sometimes deliberate) or else are so tenuous as to render them useless as evidence of any genuine predictive power. Moreover, none of the sources listed offers any evidence that anyone has ever interpreted any of Nostradamus's quatrains specifically enough to allow a clear identification of any event in advance. As stated above, he has doom and despair quatrains, but none of them point specifically to 2012. They could be used to support that ANY day will be THE doomsday.
March 2, 201016 yr About the Mayan calendar "connection" to the 2012 doomsday: There is no doubt that the Mayans were excellent astronomers. This was, like other ancient cultures, based on an agricultural necessity. However, they did not END their calendar on Dec. 21, 2012. Their calendar, like many native American calendars, is cyclical and a new calendar begins on Dec. 22, 2012. The galactic alignment of which the whole hype centers around has happened over 350 times in the Earth’s history. Additionally, their Long Count calendar is only one of the calendars that they used. It should also be noted that current day Mayans (as a group) do not believe in the 2012 doomsday and no longer even use the Long Count calendar. Edited March 2, 201016 yr by Birdsfan
