SK latest problems seem to be getting to the line. Last Friday against Highlands only 1 FTP :eek: and last night only 3. That is why IMO, I think the choice of Stephenson over Aris on "D" has been a bit testing for the Lady Pioneers. There were 3 fouls (2 back to back) on 23. Set WV up for those important FTA's. WV had 13 FT's in this game. In that last 1:30 all SK needed was "D".

Not sure I follow the logic of how getting to the line, only 3 foul shots made, connects with defensive choices. The two fouls on 23 you refer to were good ones. The first one was the 6th team fouls- a free one; the last one she couldn't give Ginn the lay-up after the turnover (not hers) when the ball rolled right under the WV basket! She made a nice play to hustle and get back and I would much rather send someone to the line in that situation and put pressure on them to make the shots.

 

Only making 17 FG's in almost 60 shots was the problem, many of the misses coming from point blank range. Don't forget, 23 hit two 3's down the stretch in crunch time.

Homer with a slight lapse in objectivity....yes, sore no; Did Stowers coach to win and did his players want to win, absolutely, that's why they were so upset. Did they show everything? I guess we will find out next week.

 

I would say there was some exaggeration in the round trip bus ride comment as it is probably closer to 4 than 5.

Is there anywhere in KY that takes 5 hours to get to. Winning the district should get you a better slot in the tournament. I do think winning the district meant something to SK, but more to WV. It being their 1st.

Clyde or any other rule savy person, who makes the call of good no good when three refs are on the floor and what do they use to determine the timeliness of the shot? Hard to watch the clock and the point of release at the same time?

The official (trail or center) who is opposite the table is responsible for counting or not counting the last second goal. The referee will make the final decision in case of disagreement between the officials or if it is necessary to consult the timer. The timer should only be consulted on a last second tap or try when the red\LED light fails to illuminate or the timer's signal is not heard. To further clarify, when a red light behind the backboard or an LED light on the backboard is present, it is permitted to signal the expiration of time in the quarter/extra period. If no red/LED light is present, the audible timer's signal will continue to signal the expiration of time. Again, it is the trail/center official's responsibility who is opposite the table to determine if the goal counts or not.

So if the red light system is available, which it was, then that will be used by the ref to determine a good shot versus late shot. I must say with no red light it is much tougher.

SK player, #30, told her parent's she was not even looking at the goal, but focusing on the red light above it. She wanted to make sure she released the ball prior to it going on. However, that is in the past, and the girls will move on to next week. Good luck to everyone and may the best team win!

I have seen video of the last few seconds of the game in slow motion and the ball is still in her hand when the light is red. It was very close, but none the less a great call by the official.
