Revisited a church that I went to on a Wednesday nite. People were again very friendly. Its close to our home, its has a small Youth group, too small. They are calling a person for the Youth so I'll keep an eye out for this church.

 

My 12 year old is very involved and he needs buddies around him.

On a somewhat related topic, do you guys go to church on Sunday when you're on vacation?

We usually do and always enjoy it.

 

My experience albeit limited is that Catholics as a whole visit other parishes more so than non-Catholics. Heck, I went to Mass yesterday at another parish.

 

How far off am I in my thinking?

When I trained for my jobs on the railroad I had to be out of town for 6 weeks and later again for 6 more weeks. I went to church every Sunday. The first was in Atlanta and the next Cumberland Maryland.

 

On vacation I look around when I get there, but hate wearing shorts to church.

Why? I would think the important thing would be that you were there. But if it's that big a problem for you, why not take a pair of khakis?

JS, you raise a good question about the shorts issue. Many of us were always taught to "dress up" for church. As I age and as society gets more lax I have gotten more casual for church. My mindset is that we're there for a reason and its not a fashion show. However, there is a line. I'm not sure where it is but its there.

Jim, good point. In Gulf Shores they are probaby used to the shorts. I need to rethink that one.

 

Being from the Baptist Church I might even visit a "Christian" Church soon, there is a huge one close by and its not Southeast.

Forgot to add...so far there are 6 families that have already left our current church. My wife is a teacher there and her helper has already left and she doesn't want the kids have someone new come in.

 

I will not be back on a sunday. This is very hard for us, all these people who have left are our best buddies. We all are leavin for the same reasons.

 

This will be a very slow process, finding the right fit might take a while.

 

The Preacher yesterday talked about a lady who visited 17 different churches and was not happy the way she was greeted at all 17 churches, was this a sign for me? I have not spoken to anyone at this church about the same problem I have faced,

 

Just got a call now 7 have left the Church. We are talkin about 30 folks including the kids.

Yes, always. As much as we travel for sports, it is a very rare occurence that we miss church. I can only think of about 3 times over the last 4 years that we have missed. Our kids know it is a priority and it is second-nature to them. Plus it can't hurt to maybe ask God, "help us win, please." :lol: Mostly we just thank God for safe travels and no injuries. The best part is sometimes teammates will go with us. An opportunity to witness to others is always a good thing.

Clyde, the people of the Church have found out they are not on the same page as the Staff. The Staff have made some changes without going thru proper channels, so its time to leave, and find a place where people care for each other....as Jesus has said.

I don't usually take a vacation.

 

Can't afford it after paying for all the kids' activities via church and sports and school.

TTL how do you balance that Christianity isn't just about going to Church on Sunday morning but rather being a Christian all week long and praying for chances to be a Christian more than just on Sunday morning?

 

I really struggle with getting that message across to my children and while I want them to be at church on Sunday mornings, don't want to hold it up as the essential part of their faith.

Same page? Proper channels??? Maybe the staff should be leading the leading and the people should be submitting to their leadership? Doesn't sound like that is even in the picture in that church.
