So you could try a FG from your own 20, directionally kick it Out of Bounds at the other teams 40, and that is where they would get the ball?

Interesting option, I think it is much easier to directionally kick a Place kick vs a punt.

Furthermore, most people would think if the kicker can make it to the endzone then they might as well try a field goal. The best time to use this rule to your advantage is to angle the kick out of bound in your own territory against a good kick returner. I just believe it is much easier to angle it.

Well, we have a long way to go before we are Ohio HS football. We won't get there without Spring Football. Yes, you are correct that overall population is a big factor. But there are other factors, such as a lack of quality football at the earlier age levels in many areas. In Jefferson County, they're just beginning middle school football. It's one of the reasons I think JCPS lags behind the Catholic schools in football. Population isn't the problem. The problem is that many HS kids don't even get exposed to "real" football until high school because their parents can't afford the community leagues whereas kids in Catholic parishes can begin playing flag football in 3rd grade. So, you have from ages 8 until approx 13 without any foundation, vs. same ages learning from 3rd grade. The only way to combat that is spring ball where you can work on some crucial areas and get additional instruction in.

In NKY not many kids begin playing football as Freshman. So those kids will have to play freshman football without the "benefit" of spring practice. A high school football player can only participate in spring practice for 3 years.

What about eliminating spring practice and starting practice a week early?

The coaches love spring practice because they can see where talent is and they can finish their off-season training better by getting more familiar with which positions players will play. Also, the players can do more live scrimmaging because if the players get hurt, they have a long time to heal their injuries.

Also, end Open Enrollment in the Kenton County School System!! :ohbrother:

Well that isn't a football rule that is an individual school district's decision. Not really the same thing.

Why do you want it ended by the way? Isn't giving the student a choice in where they want to go to school a good thing? I mean throughout education programs they preach to us that by giving the student a choice you give them part ownership and they are more likely to care. Isn't this just that on a grander scale?

Coaches always like practice!:thumb:

I have a question... If the kicker attempts a 10 yard field goal (the ball is at the 3 yard line)... on a miss, would the opposing team still get the ball at the 20?

Yes. Since the kick failed, it was a touchback as soon as the kick broke the plane of the GL. Touchback means the ball comes out to the 20. If the failed kick did not break the plane of the GL then it would be the same as if the kick was a punt.

Also FYI - Your math is incorrect. Snap from 3, kick from 10 would be a 20 yard FG attempt, including the 10 yards of EZ.

Oh I thought we were talking about Canadian High School football.
