Is It Now or Never for the Lakers??

Featured Replies

He was a free agent last year wasn't he? No big offers....

No one had alot of cap room. Outside of the Raptors and Blazers I don't know who else had anything to spend at all besides the MLE, BAE, and vet's minimum.

Well both of those teams terribly overpaid for guys and he didn't even get an offer.

Portland did??

It is easily now or never for the Celtics, I don't think so for the Lakers.

The Lakers need to get a bit younger next year and I don't think they'll have a problem doing it.

The Lakers could compete with any of those hypothetical teams.

You're adding two elite players to bad basketball teams. The Lakers can match that with Kobe and Gasol. I'm also comfortable with Artest, Odom and Bynum matched up with any other teams 3-5. Not to mention, LA would still have the length in the front court that gives teams trouble, and Odom who provides mismatches with his versatility.

As long as they keep this team together and healthy, LA will be a title contender. When age starts to catch up with them, it won't matter who signed where, but they've still got a few good years left.

I'd disagree. Bosh and LeBron together on a team make them an instant front-runner for the title. Putting DWade and Amare on the same floor as Rose has to make them the odds on favorite IMO.

Amare isn't as good as you guys make him out to be.

Rose, Wade, Deng, Amare, Noah would be the top team in the league.

And, I'd disagree with that. Two players doesn't make a team great.

I do agree that Wade, Stoudemire and Rose would be a nice trio. Whether they're an instant frontrunner is open for debate.

Lebron is the best player in the league, so obviously whoever has him has that going for them.

But, for argument's sake, I think Kobe is better than Wade. And, I think Pau Gasol, at the least, is every bit the player that Bosh or Stoudemire is.

The Lakers could match up with any of those teams. I'm not going to argue about who'd be favored. Either way, LA would be in the discussion and they'd be capable of winning. And, that's just looking at it on paper. That's not considering how chemistry issues would play out, which is something LA doesn't have to worry about. I've seen enough examples spanning all sports of teams stockpiling talent and being deemed unbeatable on paper only to disappoint.

Portland didnt need him and Toronto chose to go with a wing in Turk.

How do you propose they put this super team together? They have 32 million dollars in cap obligations next season, and that's for only 6 players. That will leave them with somewhere between 20 and 25 million to spend. They could get two max guys but both would have to take a pay cut.

In this hypothetical game, it depends on who LBJ and Bosh would be playing beside. Also, I see no reason why the Lakers couldn't compete with the team you have listed.

He had no offers. None. He will get paid and probably overpaid, but even as dumb as a lot of these GM's are he isn't getting a max deal.

It is all hypothetical, but the biggest question yet to be answered is does LBJ care how long his deal is or for how much? My guess is he signs for 3 years or less. My guess is if he's serious about only wanting to win titles he takes less than the max if guys like Bosh, Wade, or JJ want to play w/ him.

I don't know if it is over for the Lakers, but this year, imo, is do or die for the Celtics.

Lakers are pretty loaded. When healthy, they could compete with any of these fantasy teams being mentioned. Bynum is going to continue to get better and better. Kobe, Pau, LO and Artest are all very solid.

If LA wants to do anything different, they should get a young pg that can play defense.
