February 19, 201016 yr Lakers are pretty loaded. When healthy, they could compete with any of these fantasy teams being mentioned. Bynum is going to continue to get better and better. Kobe, Pau, LO and Artest are all very solid. If LA wants to do anything different, they should get a young pg that can play defense. Calderon comes to mind, or get someone in the draft.
February 19, 201016 yr He had no offers. None. He will get paid and probably overpaid, but even as dumb as a lot of these GM's are he isn't getting a max deal. Who was going to offer him? The Knicks gave him more for this season that anyone else would/could have. The teams with cap space didn't need him or didn't want to pay what he wanted. With all kinds of teams having cap space this year he will get offers. And like you said he will get over paid. I have never once said I thought he'd get a max contract. But I would imagine that he's going to get somewhere in the neighborhood of 8-14 million per season, since everyone cannot win the LeBron, DWade, Bosh sweepstakes.
February 19, 201016 yr I think the Denver Nuggets can compete with any of the super teams that may be compiled next year. I heard today the Knicks will only have 4 guys on contract when this season is over. I'd think they can add 2 max guys easily. It's the rest of the lineup that will be the interesting part. I think the Lakers will be a top 1-2 team in the west along with the Nuggets for at least the next 2 years.
February 19, 201016 yr I agree I don't see him in NY and he will be at least a 15 Mil/year player for someone. You're right, someone will grossly overpay him. Who was going to offer him? I'll be the first to admit that I'm not sure exactly what a max deal is but I'm guessing 14 or 15 Million is pretty close if not over what it is for a guy w/ his experience if he doesn't stay in NY. I'll be absolutely shocked if he gets more than 10M a year for 2 years or more, and that includes the idiot GM's. If you don't get one of the big 5 or 8 players just wait until the next free agent class and the CBA is worked out. These owners don't want to lose money like they did 5 years ago.

I think his max deal would start off at about 16-17 million for his level of experience. As for waiting teams really can't do that because most long term deals increase over time and extension are needed for key guys. Case and point was the Blazers this last off season. They had about 9 million to spend and had to use it last year because of how deals were structured and they were going to have to make new deals for Aldridge and Roy. Teams just can't wait they have to sell their souls to get cap room and really have to use it when they can, which usually leads to some bad deals.

The big difference is there will be a work stoppage and the owners are going to win every big battle b/c the players live paycheck to paycheck and the owners are losing money. They're losing money b/c themselves and GM's are dumb and it's their fault, but they know the players are dumber and spend more money than they make. The owners will wait out the players. This summer is nothing like last summer.
