I kind of figured the Birds would have their way. Any details? Also was it a sweep? I know the frosh won handedly how did the JV game end up?

The JV game was won by the Birds in convincing fashion. It was enjoyable to watch the Birds play a game where they were allowed to "play" rather than move as robots. Much better flow to this game, thus the resulting final score. Benches were emptied with about 4:00 minutes to go in the game. Good to see George Grote back in action, looked a little rusty, but boy can he take his man off the dribble. Could be the spark the Birds need down the stretch.

Smith-Keller with 3 trey's last night and 13 points. Good to see the young man play well. He and Stewart will both be key for the Birds from here on out with Grubbs out for the season.

Pretty balanced scoring from the Birds. They took over at the end of the first half and just ran with out. Tigers were outmatched from the start.

 

...on a side note, found it interesting that Highlands stayed in their locker room while the visiting team was announced and came out after the visitors were announced. I have never seen that before. Somewhat of a different pre-game set up. I don't know what I think about it. Anyone else see this?

I guess I interpret that as a lack of respect for the opponent. Why would they not be on the bench for that? I am not sure, but if the Beechwood practice is for the guys to go shake the hand of the other teams coach as they are announced, they could not even do that. Wow I mean I have heard of teams coming out late to start the second half, but not the game? Was the national anthem played, and the Highlands players not on the floor for that either? Just trying to visualize what sequence of events were

I remember seeing highlights on ICN6 and they showed the players being announced and coming out of a "Highlands curtain" when being announced with the bench players being lined up to run in between.

Then as the buzzer sounded to start the game, Beechwood kids lined up to do their starting lineups, they shake hands with the Refs. Highlands bench is empty. Then after Beechwood finished their starters the Highlands reserves ran out formed their lines and Highlands starters ran out of the curtain. I have never seen it done that way, I kind of thought it was dissrespectful to the opponent. But I may just be over sensitive!

I agree. Highlands has done this all year for intro's. I actually like the idea. Not disrespectful at all, IMO.

Coach Flynn is trying to instill some new traditions at Highlands and I don't think it is disrespectful to the opponent. The opponent shouldn't be concerned with shaking hands with their opponents and more concerned with winning the game. They shake at the jump and after the game.

ok- I understand it now - I guess I can accept this better than what I was envisioning. I do find it a strange way of doing things, but I too do not find it disrespectful to the opponent necessarily.
