January 19, 201016 yr ^ Wade Phillips the guy with the highest win % out of any Dallas coach ever? His teams win in spite of his horrible decision making skills. Cincy is definitely up there with a very overrated Marvin Lewis and the arm killing Dusty Baker. Seriously, why sign a talented arm such as Chapman when Dusty is your skipper? But ultimately I think Oakland has it.
January 19, 201016 yr Art Shell, Wayne Fontes, Dick Jauron, Dave Wannstedt and Ray Rhodes all won NFL Coach of the Year before too....This is the equivalent of Mike Tyson winning any kind of acting award. Wait...are you serious, this happened?
January 19, 201016 yr Hey--you're the one that used his NFL Coach of the Year award to try and say he was a good coach. I just wanted to point out that several other crappy coaches had good years and won the award just like Marvin. I tried to bring that up last week, but I'm not a "real Bengals" fan b/c I brought it up.
January 19, 201016 yr We are going to do this thread the year after he wins and an increase of six wins from the previous year. You guys are right       If your only argument for him being a good head coach is "well he won coach of the year" then your argument isn't that solid. Keep laughing while never making a point that he's a good coach though. That's fun.

Keep laughing while never making a point that he's a good coach though. That's fun. He turned around a team that won four games and made them champions of the toughest division in football. Is that not making a point? That isn't my only argument, but it is funny that this thread gets started less than a week after he wins an award like that.

That isn't my only argument, but it is funny that this thread gets started less than a week after he wins an award like that. Turn arounds in the NFL happen every single year and it doesn't take a good coach to do it. That's why AJG pointed out that terrible coaches have won the award. He got the benefit of an easier schedule than Pitt and Balt, Benson for a full year, 85 being ready for a season instead of grossly unprepared, and Carson starting 16 games. Does that mean he's a good coach? To still think they played in the best division is a bit of a reach right? Pitt didn't make the playoffs and 0 teams from that division are alive. The Benglas were terrible outside of dominating a weak division.
January 19, 201016 yr I thought about that too but then remembered Flip Saunders coaches the Bullets. Flip Saunders is the biggest choke artist in the history of the NBA.

Calling it weak with nothing to support that is a pretty solid argument...
January 19, 201016 yr I keep hearing how down the AFC North is but nobody gives me a division that is better. Calling it weak with nothing to support that is a pretty solid argument... Here you go. The favorite of the division lost to KC, Oakland, and Cleveland. Baltimore lost to division leaders and won the games that they were supposed to win. Cleveland is Cleveland. The division winner beat P'burgh (who doesn't look so imposing now) twice, Cleveland twice yet lost to Oakland and donated the first round playoff game to the wildcard. I'm not sold that the AFC North was weak, but you sure can't sell me with that resume' that it was the strongest.

AFC North was the only division with three teams over .500. So far in this argument people keep giving me downfalls of the North instead of an argument for another division that is better. There is ZERO doubt that it was one of the best, if not the best.

Ok, the AFC North had 3 above average teams and one bad.
January 19, 201016 yr Ok, the AFC North had 3 above average teams and one bad. There we go again. Everyone can knock the AFC North but nobody can come up with a solid argument for another division.
January 19, 201016 yr  There we go again. Everyone can knock the AFC North but nobody can come up with a solid argument for another division. All I ever said about the AFC North, was it was better last year. With both Pitt and Balt making it to the AFCC.
January 19, 201016 yr I keep hearing how down the AFC North is but nobody gives me a division that is better. Calling it weak with nothing to support that is a pretty solid argument... Ok the AFC South was/is easily better. Indy was 14-0 before resting starters and just got done man handling the 2nd place team from the North in the playoffs. Houston had a 9-7 record and beat the Division winner from the North on their home field. Tennesse started off 0-6 and finished 8-8. Their last place team was 7-9 and lost to an improving Cleveland team in the cold in a game that saved Cleveland's head coaches job and didn't mean much to Jax. So their records are 14-2 (AFC title game). 9-7, 8-8, 7-9. The North's records are 10-6, 9-7, 9-7, 5-11. The South had 5 more wins out of the division, 2 games they didn't try to win out of the division or it would be 7 more wins, and they have a prohibitive favorite to play in the Super Bowl.
