Simon Fuller saying that Idol will return in a different form. I guess that's why Ryan ended the show saying goodbye "For Now"

Holy Crap...didn't expect that. Seems like all season had been moving towards one winner...then this. Is this the biggest Finals upset ever?

I guess it was more based on how she was treated by the judges and the look on their faces when she didn't win. I didn't think either one was that great but it seemed all year as if the show was setting things up for her to win. I guess this does prove that the voting in the finals at least isn't rigged, because I think the show clearly wanted her to win.

The few times that I watched the show, I also got the feeling that she was the judge's favorite. But as he tearfully said when he won, he kept working at it and changing it up to keep up with her. Maybe at the end of the day, he showcased a greater portfolio of talent because of her.

I can't really comment to this year being a big upset because I haven't watched Idol in about 3 years, but it seems like the Idol winner was often a surprise. Adam Lambert losing to Kris Allen was a huge upset. Lee Dewyze beating Crystal Bowersox was also a pretty big upset. And remember some big favorites, like Jennifer Hudson, Chris Daughtry and Melinda Doolittle got kicked off before the finals.

 

I didn't realize this season would be so short. I watched a little of the auditions this season, but didn't watch a minute of the actual competition this year. How did they manage to get this season wrapped up a month or so early?? What did they cut out that they have normally done in the past??
