January 11, 201016 yr Shows you can't go into the playoffs struggling. Example: Eagles, Bengals, Pats and later today Cards. That theory doesn't seem to apply to Arizona...they limped into the playoffs last season before nearly winning the Super Bowl. Now they limp in again only to torch one of the top defenses in the league for 51 points. The Cardinals are a very dangerous football team. The NFC is stacked. I felt like any of the six teams were capable of winning the Super Bowl...the longest shot was Philly because their line play on both sides needs to be better.
January 11, 201016 yr Agree. It has been poor drafting. Losing Welker didn't help either. And Moss has been a no show the past few weeks. Welker's absence was huge. That took away Brady's safety valve and go-to guy. The Pats o-line isn't great, so Brady needed Welker against a defense like Baltimore...he needed that guy who could win quickly off the line and allow him to get the ball out. The Pats are in a bit of a re-building mode and Brady is coming off a major knee injury...they done pretty well this season. The only thing I'd be really disappointed in from yesterday is the way they came out flat and got down 24-0. No intensity. I believe they need to get back to the pre-Moss brand of Patriot football...gritty and committed to running the ball and being physical. They may not be slinging it all over the field with that style, but I believe it would open up a lot more big play opportunities down the field, particularly for Moss. Randy Moss can go over the middle, but he's at his best and most dangerous as a deep threat. It's no wonder he can be neutralized on the current New England roster... 1. They either can't or won't run the ball, so they can't use play action to buy time and influence the DB's. 2. Teams are playing pass primarily, and New England's o-line can't hold up long enough to give Brady and Moss a chance on the deep routes. 3. There's only two threats in the passing game, Moss and Welker (with Watson contributing at times)...in this game, with Welker out, Moss got even more attention. But, even at full strength, they can neutralize Moss to a large degree with a pass rush, which would allow them to devote more coverage to Welker. The Pats need to improve the running game, the o-line, and add another decent option or two in the passing game. They've got some work to do. And, they need to learn how to draft again and fast. They've been really bad in that regard for the past few years.
