Your picks for the top 10 underclassman in the 8th.

I'm sure this thread will bring a lot of discussion... I'll have to think a while for top 10, but for my money, #1 would be Shelby Co's Wells. Then, South's Whitfield, Anderson's McKee and Brown, and either Gayheart or Devine rounding out the top 5. I think...

You are right LD. I wans't thinking she is a junior. sorry. I would say your list is pretty accurate

For purposes of this thread, how are we defining underclassmen.

I would have Gayheart number one.

I like Gayheart, but the preseason player rankings have proven to be not worth the paper they were written on. There are quite a few younger players on her level or better IMO. Still love Dixon, but I think Wells from Shelby is the best player in the region right now. Although it's probably close with her and Dixon, give me Wells. After that there are a bunch of players I would put on that next level, including Gayheart.

 

It will be interesting to see what the player rankings look like in a few years. I think by the time these young underclassman become upper classman they could jockey around several times.

I think Dixon from WV is at the top of the underclassman class. I haven't seen Wells but if she is better than Dixon, she's a whale of a player!

Are we defining underclassmen as Fresh/Soph? If so Devine would be near the top. Then the post player from Anderson..(Brown) I think she is a sophomore also. Wells from Shelby is good also. Gayheart and Neeley from Owen are neck and neck also.

 

If you are talking Juniors then it opens up a whole new group. Like Dixon, Wilhoite etc. I can think of about 10 Juniors that should be on this list.

I have not seen Shelby County play this year. There is a lot of young talent in the 8th. I know Devine is having a great year at Carroll. Brown at Anderson is very good. Wilhoite at Williamstown is very talented and plays as hard or harder than anyone in the region. Makes for interesting conversation.

Just off the top of my head I would mention these girls in no particular order:

Divine (Carroll), Hill (Gallatin), Wells (Shelby), Neeley (Owen), Gayheart (Owen), Curry(Carroll), Dixon(WV). There is a player from Oldham but I don't remember her name or #.

 

This list represents girls I have seen play this year only.

Dixon from WV and Wainscott from SK by far the best two I have seen.

If you look at the KHSAA combined statistic leaders. Dixon and Devine are mentioned several times. There are several other 8th region players mentioned also. Very good statistical information.
