In the games I saw and scouted Austin Collinsworth and Dominique Hayden from LCA what a player he is and going to be, both are excellent atheletes. JD

Maniello as stated above. I believe was a redshirt this year. I may be mistaken but I think he had some surgery (shoulder perhaps?) so he sat out this year.

 

Slusher from Beechwood is also playing D1 as a preferred walk on at UC. Teipel was doing the same at UL but I believe he left the program there.

 

But the bottom two didn't get scholarships to D1, correct? I have no empirical data to back this up, but my guess is that D1 scholleys to 1A kids are relatively uncommon.

True and I agree, and it is expected that there will be fewer D1 scholarships for 1A players. Just as the player pool for 1A is smaller. My point is if you are talented enough for D1, you will get your scholarship regardless of whether you play at 1A or 6A. And if you aren't talented enough (in the eyes of the recruiters) then playing for the best high school team in the country will not get you a scholarship.

True and I agree, and it is expected that there will be fewer D1 scholarships for 1A players. Just as the player pool for 1A is smaller. With a difference being - and a big difference IMO - that it will be much harder for an 1A kid to get his talent seen. D1 schools can't see everyone and it's so simple as to say "If you have talent, you will be seen and you will get a scholarship". Sometimes there's a lot of self-promotion involved - i.e., sending out highlight tapes, participating in camps, etc.. - in order to get seen and it's not unreasonable to assume that D1 schools will focus more of their limited time and resources on the bigger school players.

 

Anyways, we're a bit off course here, I guess. I was just curious to know if there were any 1A players in the past few years that had actually gotten a D1 scholley and obviously Maniello fits that bill.
