Gun Kits??

Featured Replies

Has anyone ever ordered a gun assemply kit? I've heard people talk about doing this but I never had and didn't know where you could even order them from?

I have a cousin that does it. The best place is Centerfire Systems in Versailles, Ky. What are you wanting to build?

I've built a couple of muzzleloaders and I've put together an AR15 from various parts I ordered off the web. If you can build a model car you can build a firearm. Just make sure you have a work area and the right tools before you start.

What firearm do you want?

Centerfire is very good.

AK's are harder than AR's.

Not really sure what I'm looking to build, definitely a rifle, maybe something semi-auto.

What do you plan to use it for. Tagget shooting, hunting. And how much can you spend. That helps narrow it down. For just plain out fun, I like the AR platform. The options are plenty. If you don't like the way it looks today just change it out.

For your first build I would suggest an AR. You can build about any rifle, from bolt action to black powder but and AR would be the easiest.

Go buy that lower(its the actual firearm, so it will have to be sent to your local gun shop).

Then go here and pick out the configuration of rifle you want - http://www.model1sales.com/ - under complete kits on the left.

That one is close to the current M-4 that the military uses.

Agreed. And like I said. An AR is really fun to shoot. After I got my first one that's all I want to shoot.

My uncle is a longstanding member of the Kentucky Corps of Longriflemen and has been building flintlock longrifles for about 30 years. He is currently building one for me (I'm helping where I can...which is very little). If anybody's interested in building one of those, the place to go to get good kits is Jim Chambers Flintocks Ltd. His kits are the absolute highest quality stuff you can get.

You can also check out things at one of the Contemporary Longrifle Association shows or at the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association's national shoots in Friendship, Indiana if you're interested.

Here's a pic of one I built a few years ago. I got the parts from Dixie Gun Works.

And to show what's possible by buying parts from different manufacturers online. That is except the lower receiver which reguires a FFL. This is the AR I built last summer.

You can buy it and have it shipped to someone with an FFL can't you?
