January 4, 201016 yr Here's a pic of one I built a few years ago. I got the parts from Dixie Gun Works. That's pretty awesome. :thumb::thumb::thumb: Was that your first longrifle build? Did it come as a whole "kit", or did you get all the parts individually and piece it together? I'll see if I can get ahold of a few photos of my uncle's last gun. It was nice. I can only hope the one we're building for me turns out half as good.
January 4, 201016 yr Yep. :thumb: Thanks. I knew you use to be able to do that but wasn't sure if it had changed. I sold a Beretta 9MM a few years ago on the internet and shipped it to a gun dealer for the guy that bought it.
January 4, 201016 yr Here are a few photo's from my uncle's last gun. He's been a hobbyist longrifle builder for about 30 years now.

January 4, 201016 yr My grandfather did it back before the alzheimers kicked in and that gun will be one of the greatest treasures I ever own. It was a lot of work though if I remember right, partly I'm sure because grandpa is/was a perfectionist.
January 4, 201016 yr He's one heck of a perfectionist too. I go over at least once a week to work on it with him, and although I'm trying to learn what I can from him, I'm still half entranced by just watching him work, so I haven't done as much "hands-on" stuff as I could have. Haha, in part, I think that's kind of a good thing, because that way I think the chances of my gun turning out top-quality are improved. We haven't gotten anywhere near the detail carving on mine yet, though. The stock is still relatively "in the square" and has a good deal of shaping to be done. I have been fiddling with some carving, though, and I'm thinking I might try my hand at checkering. I just bought an old busted rifle stock off of eBay for experimenting.
January 5, 201016 yr That is one beautiful piece of work. Someone on that level is a true artist. I had built a couple of kit muzzleoaders before I attempted the long rifle. It's just parts I bought from Dixie Gunworks and put together. The stock was probably twice as thick when I started out and all the metal work was rough. Many a hour just sanding and polishing.
January 5, 201016 yr Probably one of favorite guns is a T/C Hawken I put together about 30 years ago. It's been a real workhorse putting a few deer in the freezer over the years.
