complete joke in my opinion!

I don't necessarily disagree, but can you expand on why you think so?

Courage for what? He also stated how nobody could have overcome what he has.

This has to be some sort of a joke. Courage? Really? Did it take courage for him to kill all of those animals?

You know it takes more than courage to fend off Bubba.

You know it takes more than courage to fend off Bubba.

It takes a shank, not courage.

complete joke in my opinion!

Right there with you, brother.

Its "courage" to come back from your crime and make $1.6M?

How courageous then is the guy who leaves prison after 20 years with no skills, money, or future who gets a job making minimum wage? I'd give him an award before a fool like Vick.

Stop hating on Vick he has turned his life around and people want to remember his past, get off him please.

Congrats to Vick!

I'm all for Vick turning his life around but this is ridiculous! It's not about "hating on Vick". Let me tell you what courage is....It's the the Campbell family here in Florence that just buried there Dad and husband after he died in Afghanistan. A Mom who has to face raising 3 children by herself and children facing a world without Dad around and no 1.6 million dollar payday. It takes more courage on their part to get up each day than Vick has ever displayed in his entire life.

Stop hating on Vick he has turned his life around and people want to remember his past, get off him please.

Congrats to Vick!

I agree, but I'm biased of course. Some part of me still feels like he can be a quality starter in the NFL, but most likely that is non-sense. I'm a huge Vick fan though:idunno:.

Congrats to Vick!

He paid his price. I'm all for him getting a chance to earn a living in the NFL.

However, he has shown zero courage to win such an award.

Courage???

Each team gets to select a player to receive this reward. It was voted on by Vick's peers, his teammates.

The animal rights group, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, issued a statement reprimanding the Eagles for giving Vick the award.

"The Philadelphia Eagles fumbled when they gave Michael Vick the Ed Block Courage Award, which was named after a man who advocated in behalf of abused children," the PETA statement read. "Michael Vick should not be the person anyone points to as a model of sportsmanship, even though he has now exchanged dogs for touchdowns after serving time for extreme cruelty to animals. We wish him well in educating others, but this is not appropriate and does not mark a joyous moment in NFL history."

Vick has spent time working with the Humane Society of the United States, speaking to school and community groups about the mistakes he made in getting involved in dogfighting.

"It was a big obstacle proving I'm worthy of a second chance," Vick said. "It doesn't stop here. I have to continue to prove that. I think it's not going to be a day-to-day process, it's going to be a year-in, year-out process. It's a challenge to myself. The thing I told Roger is that four or five years from now, I'm going to come to him and say, 'Everything I told you I was going to do, I'm still doing it.' And that's what I pride myself on and that's my focus and that's my goal."[/i]

Shockingly, PETA doesn't like it (do they ever like anything). But the last 2 paragraphs show why he earned his teammates' vote.

He paid his price. I'm all for him getting a chance to earn a living in the NFL.

However, he has shown zero courage to win such an award.

Courage???

He's gone out and has become an advocate on certain issues. He's done everything people have asked for him and thus far, he's done everything he said he would. Granted, he put himself in that situation, but I think it takes a strong person to admit their mistakes & go speak about said mistakes.

I don't feel bad for the man, but it was his TEAM who voted for him.
