It wasn't that their outside shooting was lacking last night. They actually shot the ball well from outside as Avery, R. Johnson, J. Johnson, Pittman (2), and Rice all knocked down a trey.

 

The reason they had a problem with McEachern's zone was because nobody was attacking it. They were simply passing the ball around the perimeter and hoping that one of the McEachern players wouldn't rotate out since they were double teaming Pittman down low.

 

Holmes biggest problem last night was their rebounding. At the end of the game on two separate occasions, McEachern's SHOOTER got the rebound with 3 Holmes players standing on the blocks and nobody from McEachern down there.

 

Holmes actually pulled to within 3 at 54-51 with 1:12 left in the game and got the ball back after a Ricardo Johnson 3 pointer but a bad pass by Avery out of bounds gave McEachern the ball back and allowed them to seal the game at the line.

 

Holmes really needs to develop a little more depth too. R. Johnson picked up his 4th foul and went out of the game with the score tied 44-44 after a Pittman dunk. When Johnson returned, McEachern had ran off 7 straight to give them a 51-44 lead.

You were dead on about the rebounding. Holmes did a lot of standing around at both ends and should never have lost the rebounding battle almost 2 to 1. They were clearly the much bigger team on the floor. I personnally thought Pittman spent too much time on the outside. When he got the ball down low he was able to dominte the paint. He just didn't spend enough time there.

Holmes looked lazy last night when it came to rebounding.

 

I agree about Pittman. When he got the ball down low nobody could stop him. Had Holmes used their size down there and even posted up Ricardo or JJ, I think they could have done some serious damage.

 

Ricardo had a 6'2 kid guarding him the whole game and JJ had a 6'1 kid on him the whole game. You have to capitalize on those mismatches.

While I agree with all the points in the earlier posts your stats are off on the % of 3pt FGs attempted. Only 40% of their FG attempts were from 3pts, (21-51).

Pittman reminds me of Antoine Walker in one way ... he likes to spend too much time too far away from the basket.

 

I would tell Pittman the same thing I always thought Pitino should have told Walker, who was unstoppable in the post when he chose to hang out there:

 

"You see that 3-point line? I've got a sniper sitting in the stands, and whenever you wander out past that line, he's going to shoot you."

Ricardo was in foul trouble in the second half but his shot selection was questionable, to say the least.

 

Tried to do too much at times and forced shots. Very uncharacteristic game for him. He had atleat a 3 inch height advantage the whole game but continued to settle for jumpers, rather than driving and getting in the lane.
