Actually Barry Zito was far from very good until he signed with the Giants. He was an average pitcher with an upper 3.50 ERA. His homerun totals were up and so were his walks. He didn't deserve the money he got.

 

 

All I'm saying is it's not like there isn't teams interested in players who may have had an off year.

Zito's 2000-2006 average yearly numbers in Oakland ... 204 IP, 175 H, 80 BB, 157 SO, 15-9 with a 3.55 ERA.

 

That's in the "steroids era" and in the DH league, too. Those aren't "average" numbers. Those are pretty darn good ones. Even in his last season, he was 16-10 with a 3.83 ERA and gave up fewer hits than innings.

 

No team in their right mind should have given Zito that kind of contract, but he was pretty good in Oakland.

 

Lowe's numbers last year weren't anything close to that.

For starters multiple teams expressed interest in Derek Lowe. They contacted the Braves and wanted to try and make a deal for him. One team actually had interest in both Soriano and Lowe. Here comes the dilemma;

 

The Braves, from the start, wanted a veteran/big bat in return for a package that centered around Lowe. Teams were taken away by his contract and the fact that the Braves were not planning on taking back any part of his salary.

That is why there is an update from Stark saying what you just posted.

 

So it's not that there isn't "strong interest" in Lowe, because there is, it's just that teams are not willing to take on or give up what the Braves are asking. It's the same situation that Halladay is a part of. Teams want him, just not the price it takes to get him.

 

 

So before you go celebrating on something you are in the dark about you may want to actually do some research on the entire subject.
