MLB Winter Meetings Updates

As a Reds fan, I realize that we won't do much (if anything) this offseason.

But I love the deals that all of the other teams in the Central are making (from a Red's perspective). The Brewers are overpaying and the Astros acquired Lindstrom, who I have absolutely no faith in.

I know the Brewers were desperate for pitching, but they're a small market team as well. Wolf was good last year, but I'm not sure the Brewers made the right decision giving him $10 million per year for the next 3.

Angels in serious talks with Matsui.

This tidbit from MLBTradeRumors.com:

Jeff Francoeur added that the offseason is not over and that the Mets "need three or four different pieces to make [the Mets] a playoff team."

Yeah, and one of those pieces is his replacement. Obviously, Francoeur has a better recognition of his team's talent than he does the strike zone.

When I read that I thought the same thing. Any offseason addition will likely land Francoeur on the bench.

To end this whole thing, all I've said from the beginning is that Lowe has strong interest from multiple teams. That is a fact.

Whether those teams go deep into discussions with the Braves about trading for him is another thing.

From mlbtraderumors.com:

MLB.com's Mark Bowman says the Braves made it known they were willing to eat $9MM of the $45MM owed to Derek Lowe over the next three years, but found no takers.
