Boone County 58 Ryle 56

Featured Replies

Is it time for a change at Ryle? Coach Mullins is 0-8 against Boone and 2-3 against Conner, the two wins being last year when Conner didn't have the greatest team. They have lost to Boone by an average of 13.63 points per game. This is not acceptable in Union. They have to get better coaching. I think that this is a pivotal year for Mullins and if they don't fair better then this could, and should, be his last year with the Raiders.

FWDT, while I do not have a dog in this hunt is there more to the story or just that Ryle has a poor record against two rival teams? Is it possible that Boone and Conner have better players? confused:

Stauffer wasn't a factor. He had 4 points in the first half. Turned his ankle just before halftime and didn't come back. Scoring leaders for Ryle were Coleman with 19 and McLeash with 11. Leaders for Boone were Cotton with 15 and Popp with 12. Close game the whole way.

I believe Stauffer actually had 5 or 6 points when he went down. I thought 6. And, he didnt twist his ankle just before half, that is false. There was 5 or 6 minutes to go in the second quarter. Not to mention that when he was in the game Boone County had 0 post presence. Boone's big boy (you know who Im talking about) wanted no part of Stauffer early. So they put him on the wing.

Other than that... Yes. Great game. Back and forth all the way. I was surprised to see that Gabbard didnt play up to his billing. The young guys for Boone played well, Montgomery and Brown. Popp also looked solid and Cotton is athletic as heck!

For Ryle, Coleman looked very sporadic, but boy he scored. Mcleish also looked solid, but wore down at the end because Boone kept pressing him. Good game for him though. Lastly, Vollet, the junior looked real solid for Ryle. A good team.

So do we assume that Ryle would have fared better with Stauffer playing 4 quarters?

I dont know that Stauffer brings the W in this game, it was just so back and forth. No matter the score, the other team could have scored again. I think Stauffer always helps Ryle though, no matter what.

Its how I know I need to start looking for Christmas trees.

Now this is funny, I dont care who you are!

Nice one Clyde.

I happened to see Cooper Downs sitting on the varsity bench against Ryle on Tuesday night. Albeit, he was in street clothes. And, i know his dad was on the bench coaching. Is there a chance that she see's varsity time this season??? Or, just sitting there to get a live look in....

Right now, Schulze is hurt, so I think Cooper could be used to spell Gabbard.

Well, I just don't get why the kids at Ryle, and yes my kid goes there, have to suffer under poor coaching. Nate Niemi was a way better coach and you guys on here always questioned him when he didn't win, why the standard isn't the same for Alan I do not know. Give me one good reason that Ryle should not be anticipating ridding themselves of Alan. If Alan can beat Boone one time this year and sweep Conner, which they should, then I will not question him. They are a better team than what the caliber of coach is at that school.

Didn't they make it to the region and battle Holmes down to the end last year?

They did make it to the region last year in probably the weakest 33rd District in the past 10 years. Cooper, Conner and Heritage weren't exactly the stiffest competition. Nate went to state and still was criticized every year.

If my memory serves me correctly, Conner had Ryle beat in the District last year, but Ryle came up with some very fortunate last second heroics to save the game. There were alot of people in that gym that thought Conner should have won that game last year. Nate did go to state with a guy named Doellman. Please name for me a player that Ryle has had since Doellman that is even in the same locker room?

ANY coach is as only as good as his talent. Mullins can coach, just lacks the talent to go any further than he has in the past.

You glossed over the "battle Holmes" part? Didn't they battle Holmes? Holmes ended up having a pretty good year.

Ryle has a pretty niceteam this year and should be in the top three in the region next year talent wise.
