I'm not saying he's not significant, but you don't think he's less significant to the league now than what he was before Lebron and Dwade showed up, then you are sadly mistaken. Kobe was the whole show until those guys arrived. I think Kobe is the best in the league, but he's not hands down the only guy in the league anymore. I can't believe that made you laugh.

I have spent all the post Shaq years arguing amongst many people of Kobe's's greatness, but Kobe has always been cast as a "can't win without Shaq" player. In all reality, he just started getting endorsements back a year or two ago when the Lakers finally got back to Finals. Regardless of what you think Kobe's significance to the league is he is a worldwide ambassador to the game of basketball and the NBA. I just don't think he is any less significant today than he was 2-3 years ago. If anything he could be more significant considering how there are 31 teams chasing after what he is currently holding.

 

Maybe amongst children and shoe collectors he is less significant, but I just don't see it.

 

The Celts, Magic and Cavs all made moves this offseason because of Kobe and the Lakers.

 

 

 

He's never been hands down the only guy in the league. I seem to recall Tim Duncan winning a couple of championships and the Detroit Pistons "team", and Wade carrying Shaq to his 4th ring during this time period as well. Steve Nash and Dirk Nowitzki won MVP trophies during this time period also.

Wow. Just because I say he's less significant doesn't mean I don't think he's not the best. LESS significant does not mean NOT significant. Kobe is the best player in the NBA today, but one can at least make an argument for Lebron now, something that couldn't be done before Lebron showed up. Do you get me now?

It seems like when a debate between the 2 gets started, there are clearly two different camps: The Kobe camp, and The LeBron camp. Does anybody like both?

If Kobe was as good/consistent as a rebounder and passer as he is a scorer, than I would agree with you. Kobe is probably the best scorer in the league which gets people excited and the reason why they immediately go for him being the best.

 

Now he has become a good defender which solidfies his argument as being one of the best, if not the best.

 

But the lack of consistent rebounding, which his team does not need him to do, or his passing, which he can be very good with at times, opens up the door for others.

 

Tim Duncan is probably the best all-around player in the league. He has high marks in all of those things.

 

Lebron also is a better all-around player than Kobe but is not the shooter that Kobe is.

 

Chris Paul also has to be put in the conversation.

 

DWade can score, play defense and carries more of a workload for his team than the others with the exception of Paul.

 

These would be the four that I would put into the talk.

Kobe is more savvy than LeBron, he understands all of the nuances of the game and that's what makes him Kobe. He's a very cerebral player, I think he knows more about the game of basketball than anyone else in the NBA. He realizes that while he may still have the ability to get to the basket and finish with a nasty dunk, but that he isn't as young as he once was and a jump shot will get the job done just as well. He has the best killer instict in the game, and is able to score just as many points a game as LeBron is, and not put his body through nearly the physical strain LeBron does. Kobe's game isn't as "flashy" as LeBron, but I think they are almost equal if not, then it is just slightly in favor of LBJ. I don't really like Kobe-I've never hated him-the Lakers have just always been one of those teams, like the Yankees, Phillies, Ohio State football, or Duke Basketball that I've always just disliked; so naturally Kobe being a Laker didn't help his case in my eyes.

I LOVE Kobe, and I sort of like LeBron just because he did so well got my fantasy team last year. I would not call myself a fan of LeBron, but I do not dislike him. I like LeBron, but Kobe is my favorite in the league.

Again, I don't know what's hard to understand about this. I didn't say he wasn't significant. He's very significant. Just not as much as he was before Lebron came into the league. How can anyone not agree with that is beyond me.

Kobe is averaging right at 5 rebounds and 5 assists per game for his career. Lebron is averging right at 7 and 7. I don't think Kobe gets near enough credit for his rebounding and passing game.

I cannot stand Lebron.
