Second round matchups

All of the BGP top ten in 6A play one another.

#1 ST.Xavier/#9 Ryle

#2 Simon Kenton/#10 Manual

#3 Trinity/#8 Shelby County

#4 Henry Clay/#7 Bryan Station

#5 Ballard/#6 Male

Should be some great games.

X will blow Ryle out.

The T and SK games should be won easily, but still respectable scores.

Ballard and Male should be a very good one, either team could easily win, along with the Bryan Station/HC games.

Next week is when it'll get really interesting. X and SK.

I think people are overlooking Shelby County. They could win that game they are a very physical team and can score in bunches on offense.

Which is why the KY playoff system is messed up. Why do ranked teams, 1-10,have to play each other so early in the playoffs?

So is the system messed up because round one has bad games and blowouts, or is the system messed up because round two has good games that should be close?

There are only 16 teams left playing in each class. It's almost inevitable that most of the top 10 will play each other this week in every class.

Never have been a fan of district play and the way the state ranks teams during the season. I like the harbin computer ranking system. I believe it forces teams to play a quality schedule during the season. I am a fan of just the top 16 teams in each class making the playoffs anyway.

It is all about geography and travel. You have the same issue in other states because they are not going to make teams travel all across their state because of rankings.

There are other states with the approximate size and population as KY that do not have the district and ranking system that do just fine with the computer system.

I have one other comment and then I will get off of this issue. You say that states, and I presume you are referring to Ky here, "are not going to have teams travel all across the state because of rankings". In one instance , I can tell you a team traveled approximately two and a half hours to play a team that was ranked much higher in the state and soundly beat them at their home field. Looking at combined opponent win-loss records of the two teams involved, the inferiorly ranked team had an opponent win to loss record of 64wins and 36 losses while the superiorly ranked team had an opponent win to loss record of 49 wins to 51 losses. Would this team have had to travel that distance if their was a different ranking system? Probably not.

But how much does Harbin punish a team that "thinks" they are scheduling quality "programs" only to find many of them in down years.

Example: What would a computer do to Boyle County? The Rebels scheduled:

*5A Johnson Central (recent past shows a solid program) but who would have thought they would go only 6-4?

*4A Rockastle (Traditionally a good program that has been to 2 State Finals in the decade) but who thought they would have a losing record? (First in what, 25 years?)

*2A Danville (Not many programs have a greater tradition in the state) Could anyone foresee a 1-6 start?

*5A Christian County is the State Runner-up the previous year. But they struggled and finished only 6-4.

How much would a Computer penalize the team that "guesses wrong" through no fault of their own?

Not sure I can answer the question you posed, but I can say based upon what takes in Ohio, I highly doubt that Boyle would be playing Danville if there were a Harbin points system in KY. Large schools playing significantly smaller schools in OH seems very rare.
