November 3, 200916 yr I watched a little bit of the meeting that was televised on Channel 5 a few days ago. It seems that there are strong opinions on both sides of the vote (imagine that.) I hope the vote passes & think that it has a real opportunity to do so. My question is, how will this affect Kentucky (NKY, specifically)? Will OH legalizing gambling make KY more likely to do so?
November 3, 200916 yr The only chance I see at KY gambling is slots at the tracks. I can't imagine how long it would take for the citizens to approve casinos.

I can't imagine why voters would be against jobs and money coming into the state, but I agree w/ you. It just amazes me that Kentucky will be the only state in this entire area without gambling. I hope it doesn't go through in Ohio. They can't be as dumb as Kentuckians can they?

November 4, 200916 yr Kentucky needs to do this as well. People who don't like casinos shouldn't go instead of not allowing them in a state. I just don't get it?

November 4, 200916 yr I hope casino gambling in Ohio and Ky both fail. The positives it might bring does not offset the negatives it bring. Heard a great point on radio this weekend. How about putting lowering taxes on business and setting up an environment that is friendly to businesses and encourages them to set up shop in KY? That sure would create some jobs and get KY on the right side of the creation of jobs.
November 4, 200916 yr I'm assuming you meant to say that you hope it does go through in OH? No I had it right. I hope for the sake of my great state and for the horse racing industry Ohio is at least 5 years behind Kentucky. If Ohio is first it will kill the racing industry. Keeneland may get by and Churchill has a small chance. It's a travisty.
November 4, 200916 yr There has to be a ton more money generated from a casino than from horse racing. I don't know that for a fact but I don't see how horse racing could compete.

I have no idea how any Republican including church people could ever be against gambling in the state of Kentucky. It already exists, and Catholic churches for one are extremely hypocritical in their stance. I consider myself a conservative at heart, but I will never vote another Republican in the state of Kentucky as long as they don't support gambling. Lowering taxes to create environment friendly jobs is a great theory, but are there as many people ready to start those businesses today that will be paying a huge some of money just for the right to build those businesses? Do you have examples of these companies?
