Highlands play calling

Just want to know if anyone else liked or disliked the way the Birds signaled in plays from the sideline against Ryle this weekend. To me, it really slowed the pace of the game and the O did not look like it was in sync most of the game. I, for one, am not a fan of this technique.

I am sure that the multiple time state champion coaching staff thinks that it best suites their chances of victory.

With injuries to the top offensive players it might take some getting used to. Not only for the players but the coaching staff as well. I really don't think anyone could question this coaching staff based upon the circumstances. I'd say their record this season, and past years speaks for itself.

I was not at the game, and maybe it was some sort of trial and error thing for future reference. If they found it did not work, hopefully they will discard it. Besides, why do you try to fix something that is not broken.

What was the previous method?

Oklahoma did this in the title game all last year. It really slows the game down, it makes the O Coord feel into the game.

Did it disrupt their offensive production? Maybe. Were they simply doing it to prepare another wrinkle for the playoffs? I'm sure that was it!

This put in for Ryle. Ryle changed their D mid season. They were overloading one side of the line. This forced them to show their hand and the play would be called accordingly. Why do people question the genious of Dale and his staff. He won state in 2007 calling plays the same way for the entire season. Also it does'nt slow the game, you actually get 10 to 12 more offensive plays per game.GO BIRDS WIN STATE!:ylsuper:

Because entirely too many people think they know a better way to do it than someone who has been there and done that time and again.:puke:

Like you had somewhere better to be..even in the rain.

I know that in films the next day Coach Mueller wasn't too happy with the execution.

The play calling has been drving me crazy for a while BUT Dale and his staff know what they are doing so their is no reason to complain about it. They keep winning and out scoring the other team! Good luck Birds win state.

Since I am new to this web sight maybe someone could fill me in. This thread and the one on the Highlands vs Ryle JV game. People are not happy with a program that is ranked 11th in the nation, has won State 17 or 18 times. I don't get it.

How does that song go from Emerson, Lake and Palmer?

"Welcome back my friend to the show that never ends. We're so glad you could attend. Come inside! Come inside! ":thumb:

Actually, the state champion '07 team ran the same type of play calling for many of their games... and it worked very well for them. I am sure we will continue to see similar play calling on the road to BG. Dale and staff got the momentum going again. No huddle, huddle or plays called in from the sidelines... does'nt matter to me and it certainly doesn't bother the O players.
