Mountain Lion in Owen Co?

Featured Replies

Did anyone get a text about a very large mountain lion being photographed via motion camera (with a deer in its mouth) in Owen Co? I'll try to get a copy of the photo on here. I'm trying to find out if it is real or fake. There is nothing about it on snopes.com, so it might be true.

If it is this pic it may be a real pic but not from KY. It has made the rounds for a few years now. I think it has just about happened in every state.

Mariah Carey's chest is more authentic than that picture.

That is actually the worst copy of it I have seen. I think who ever posted that on the site I got it from scanned in a printed paper copy.

A. Look at the posture of the cat's tail.

B. Interesting that a cat would drag a deer under a feeder. It seems staged as if the deer was "caught" under the feeder. Where are the pictures that support the "struggle"? Surely you can get the camera to take a picture in a 30 second delay. That's the max on my camera. A full grown buck would have put up a fight that surely would have lasted 30 seconds.

C. I got a picture of a guy holding a mountain lion in his garage in an email that stated "big cat shot on I-79 in Charleston,WV". If you look really closely you can see all the mule deer racks in the background on the other side of the garage. Either the hunter was out west mulie hunting quite a bit or that lion was from Utah.:D

I don't know if it's real or not, but it's pretty sweet. I'd like to have a taxidermist(sp?) make something up like that for me! How bout that in the corner of the livingroom?

Yep, the first example was the one. Nice muley racks in the background however.

I thought that was probably the one you were thinking of. I have seen it before as well. Never noticed the racks in the back ground, good catch.

It seems mountain lions are a popular critter for the tall tales. It's either "I seen a black panther" or someone spots a mountain lion in a state or area they don't exist. They always come with a photo that I like to call a "Big Foot Pic". Blurry as heck and you can never make out what the critter really is.

Got this text earlier this month said it was in Owen found at 3:30am. I googled "cougar drags deer" and found this picture in a ton of forums. I knew it wasnt real but was oddly disappointed when I found out for sure.

You could probably find a big cat on I-79 since noone ever uses that highway!

This same picture was circulating around Pendleton County about 3 weeks ago. It was supposed to have been taken at the Pendleton-Grant counties line. When I asked several times who's camera took the picture I could never find anyone that knew. We live in a small community and if this picture was taken in PC you can guarantee it would have been in our local paper. It amazes my how many people around that believed it. That cat moves around a lot. :D

There are cats similiar to that in Ky. No fuzzy pics or dead deer involved but I saw it with my own eyes. Ky fish and wildlife at the time said there was no such animals in the area which made me chuckle. I think now they have confirmed their exsistence. They tried to tell me it was probably a bobcat but when the thing trotted away its what looked like a 3 ft long tail was standing up kind of like a house cat will do.
