Dixie 26 Covington Catholic 7 (JV)

No doubt about it Dixie has a great soph class. CCH does as well but Dixie or Beechwood are probably the 2 best in NKy. Pretty sure Dixie beat the Birds by about 20 last year in frosh ball.

The big question is if this will translate over to varsity.

Probably not for Dixie. I say this because Dixie's senior class this year was very good as frosh. Highlands won the freshman championship game but I remember the playoff game that year with Dixie and it was a good game.

I was expecting Dixie's senior class this year also to be much better due to the fact that many are returning starters from last year. :idunno:

Sadly, you're probably right. For some reason, the kids don't seem to develop much from their sophomore to senior years. This year's team has been better offensively, although they do miss Brock's speed, but their defense hasn't improved at all.

In the comments section of the online article (about the varsity game), people said that Dixie does not have 2-a-days in the offseason.

Is this true? Is this part of the reason (or more) that Dixie struggles to develop players?

I wouldn't bet the house on that one. That sophmore group for Dixie is loaded with talent, and not just on offense either. Their defense is pretty good from what I have seen. Especially at the DB positions. Cohorn is as physical at the safety position as I have seen in a while, and so is Pillman at the linebacker position. I can see this group improving over the next couple years.

Yes as we know every year is Dixies year cause the past as freshman was so good and as sophomores they was so good then they had so many returning player this year not to say they dont have talent it is that they arent in shape, not taught the basics of football and thats why they have so many out hurt. Until they have a change in the staff it will always be the same!!!!

I've seen this many times over the years at Dixie. Problem is, when they get to the varsity level, underachievement settles in.

I used to think that two-a-days was highly overrated. However, I'm beginning to think there could be a connection to Dixie's underachievement and the lack of dedication to offseason preparedness. I'm not speaking of the dedication of the players here but of the coaching staff.

Who is Dixie's Freshman and JV coaches? Maybe you have something there.

I'm trying to figure out where you're going with this.

Or what is a JV freshman?

Maybe they have a different approach to their games than the varsity coaches do. IDK!

That's a good possibility. Maybe a change needs to be in order.:idunno:
