I know that times are tough. But, there are lots of opportunities to do fund raising. It is not easy (I have slept in a fireworks tent in the middle of Louisville). But, in my mind, it is a small price to pay to help my sons achieve their dreams.

In talking to different college coaches in different sports.

 

I've been told more than once that 'The easiest kid to recruit is the kid that wants to come to your school'.

 

At the end of the day all you want to do is give your child the oppurtunity to continue their career at the next level if that is what they want.

 

All you really need to do is get your childs name / information in front of the coach or assistant coach. Heck, you can send a letter (or even an email) to the coach or assistant coach of the school your child wants to attend or a variety of colleges that they have an interest in. If you provide them with your childs schedule, stats, 'resume', etc., who knows, they may show up.

 

I agree that it helps to play on the top AAU teams and in the Sweet 16, however, kids get recruited that do not do either. You just want to do what you can to get them noticed and their name out there.

You are a good parent, but what if they are raised by older grandparents or other situtations. Not all kids have the opportunties or family support.

 

I too would do the same for my child. I have for him and his friends. But being a teacher and involved with sports, too often I have seen kids that didn't have the means or family support.

I will certainly agree that there is talent around the state.

 

In my post, I specifically mentioned that these were some of the ones being looked at. I listed those names because I know that they have college visits coming up in the very near future. I only know the players that I know. Sorry about that.

 

As for your comment about it being who the parents are aligned with, OF COURSE IT IS! The parents of the ones mentioned have made a point to get their sons noticed. If you are not going to bust your butt getting your kid some attention, who will? :confused:

 

In the end, I hope that as many KY players as possible get to pursue their dreams of playing ball in college. Part of the way that happens, is for the parents to make an active effort (time & money).

Watts from McCreary has D1 ability but is a better football player. He is also a very good baseball player. It will be interresting to see what he plays and where he plays it. St. John South Laurel is clearly the best player in the 12th or 13th outside of Watts. I have heard that Coastal Carolina is showing some interest.

True, they are unofficial visits until they are seniors. But, they are coordinated with the university coaches. As a parent, I can call them. They just can't call me.

Jarrod Polson from West Jessamine has a full ride offer from Taylor Univ.in Indiana and interest from several others. Would like to see him get more D1 interest but he seems to get overlooked for some reason.

 

Polson is a top notch guard in the 12th and IMO he is better than Watts, but because of his height D1 schools are not going to show interest in him.
