October 19, 200916 yr I don't feel bad for a coach who's dumb enough to run out of time when a TO would have saved them 20 seconds. The amazing thing to me is how many coaches in big time football, college and NFL, who are absolutely horrible clock managers. You'd think a guy who worked under Belichick would have a better grasp for game situations. For example, against the Broncos last week, Denver had a 4th down late in the first half...Belichick called a timeout with about 14 seconds left instead of letting the clock run during a seemingly meaningless segment. Why? Because had he let it run, McDaniels could have let it run down, called a TO and thrown a hail mary to end the half...the TO by Belichick forced the Broncos to punt and didn't give them a chance for a hail mary. Odds are, the end result are the same, but it speaks to his knowledge about game situations, clock management and attention to detail. I don't know what kind of head coach I'd be, but I'm confident my clock management would be better than a lot of the guys I watch each week. :lol:

It is so easy to manage the clock, but not many people do it well. Bill Simmons from ESPN has mentioned it over and over. He thinks teams should have a 16 year old kid who plays video games all day doing the time management and be in charge of time outs. I'd have to agree w/ him.
October 19, 200916 yr I agree 100%. I think that Charlie will be fine if ND will leave him alone. I think if Clausen and Tate come back, ND has a great shot at a National Championship next year. Don't forget about Floyd. I honestly think Floyd is the best receiver on the team when he is healthy. If Floyd plays I think Notre Dame would have won the game.

The only way Floyd makes a difference is in the beginning of the game when Clausen couldn't find anyone to throw it to. ND did do a nice job with Mcknight though. But Barkley picked them apart with only 2 receivers.
