Scott recently installed new lights on the baseball field. They are unique compared to Dixie to have the pool, a wonderful cross country facility, and a separate soccer field (not shared with football).

 

All Kenton County schools are blessed with funding for facilities improvement. Several projects are going on simultaneously and all schools are in the queue for their fair share. They haven't had to stop for the economy.

 

Hmm, seems like a lot of good, positive things happening in the Kenton County School system.

I'm curious to know too. I understand the upgrade to the stands, weight room, and addition of tennis courts. However, an indoor practice facility is over the top IMO when paid for by taxpayers. If private donors are putting up the money, then more power to SK.

I would assume that funding is coming from private donors. SK is still in the Kenton County school system so I believe that if the KC school board was doing this for SK they would have to do it for Scott and Dixie. Private donors and alumni can really help a program achieve success with upgraded facilities and improve class rooms to draw more people to the community. It makes you wonder where are the private donors and alumni for some of the other top notch programs.

Not to get off the subject of SK indoor facility but IMO I enjoyed playing against Highlands at their facility. HHS facility has that school yard feel to it. You walk in there and you realize this is football. SK and Coach Marksberry and his staff has built a top notch program that will hopefully continue success. IMO if you have the donors and support for an indoor facility then build it. More than ever schools need their alumni to step up and help make the programs successful. Not only in their sports but their academics as well. If you can succeed with the academics and extra activities you will have a top notch school system. One thing that really gets to me is that you are constantly hearing from alumni that the old school isn't the same or alumni transferring their children to other schools. Maybe if that alumni would step up and help solve the problems instead of running away from them - the old school would be as good for your children as it was for you. SK I applaud your alumni and donors for stepping up to help the school. Just remember the academics too.

One would think it would be privately funded, but being a part of the next 'phase' that includes stands, pressbox, and weightroom upgrades, it sounds like it's state funded. I'm sure one of the SK faithfull can fill us in more.

Scott had all the facilities for years and years when Dixie and SK had very little. When the Dixie parents were pushing for a new facility back in early 2000's, I think Scott had a pool, soccer field, baseball field, softball field, track and gym on site. Dixie had a gym, a football field with more dirt than grass, and a softball field. Dixie's track team was bused to Scott to practice, Baseball was at Turkeyfoot and poor soccer had to use the dirt field that football used also.

 

Simon Kenton was alittle better than Dixie at the time because they had more land, but the track is too small for meets and they're facilities around the football field are probably a fire hazard at this point.

 

Scott can wait alittle longer since it was unequal every since Scott was built.

The real bad part of that is we make them cut and split wood in the winter to keep from freezing........... :deadhorse:
