JFK: 3 Shots That Changed America

Featured Replies

Anyone else watching this two-part documentary on the History Channel???

"JFK: 3 Shots That Changed America" airs Sunday, October 11, 9 p.m. and Monday, October 12, 9-11 ET/PT.

"JFK: 3 Shots that Changed America" anchors History's “Kennedy Declassified Week,” October 11 - 18.

I watched only bits and pieces, but wish I'd had taped it now. Interesting time-line documentary with a lot of audio and video I'd never heard/seen.

Yes, very well done...Looking forward to the 2nd half of this program that I will probably DVR and watch tomorrow night because of MNF.

I also watch anything I can about this through the years and last nite I have seen lots of tape I haven't seen before.

Its Monday nite and its on at 1AM.

For a history class one time we had to give our own perspective on the Kennedy assassination. How it happened, why it happened, and what theories we had about it. It was a fun paper to write and do research for because of all the theories out there.

I forgot they dug up Lee Harold. Just a very sad time in the 60s.

I enjoyed the old news clips of the events but I thought the producers selected footage that slanted the news to make it appear that there was a conspiracy to kill JFK. For instance, they gave Jim Garrison several minutes explaining the story of his failed attempt to convict Clay Shaw of conspiracy to murder the President. And much was made of Oliver Stone's movie "JFK" wth footage of the recreation of the sniper's nest and events at the hospital. Both Garrison and Stone's work have both been widely discredited. And conspiracy authors such as Mark Lane, who was interviewed in one scene, has also been discredited by many.

I think the closing paragraph of Gerald Posner's book "Case Closed" puts the tragic JFK event in perspective:

"The search for a darker truth than the lone assassin seems unquenchable. The desire to find a conspiracy in the Kennedy assassination will continue to be answered for years by more "confessions," witnesses who change their testimony to recall disturbing events, the appearance of papers of dubious authenticity, and by writers and researchers who present cases of guilt by association supported by rumor and innuendo. But for those seeking the truth, the facts are incontrovertible. They can be tested against credible testimony, documents, and the latest scientific advances. Chasing shadows on the grassy knoll will never substitute for real history. Lee Harvey Oswald, driven by his own twisted and impenetrable furies, was the only assassin at Dealey Plaza on November 22, 1963. To say otherwise, in light of the overwhelming evidence, is to absolve a man with blood on his hands, and to mock the President he killed."

Lest we forget Professor, the man who announced President Kennedy was dead to the world, lived in Beattyville until his death a couple of years ago. You can see his hand holding the microphone when President Johnson is getting sworn in as well. Malcom Kilduff was his name. Deputy press secretary. He was a very interesting man.

I met him a few times. Very nice fellow and I agree, he was very intersting person.

He was in Dallas with JFK that day because press secretary Pierre Salinger couldn't make the trip. He was first to announce to the world the sad news.

Correct me if I'm wrong Atticus, wasn't Kilduff the one who began the Wooly Worm Festival in Lee County back in the early '80's? He was also editor of the Beattyville Enterprise.

I also saw for the first time of eyewitness's accounts and one old guy saying..."I'll go to my deathbed knowing there was an another gunman from the knoll", and I agree with him. The angle of the second shot was from the front.

They also showed people around 1980 on the knoll, and I visited Dallas in 1980. I remember because I watched the Cards win against UCLA in the NCAA. I really looked for myself in the film.

:thumb::thumb: No doubt in my mind Larry. I have hunted and shot firearms practically all my life and I have yet to see a "boomerang" bullet, which one would had to have been to hit from both angles.

There was a very good program on the history channel about a year ago. They basically debunked every theory out there using science. Once reason why the bullet seemed to "boomerang" was because Jfk was seated higher than the Govener in the front seat.

It's a shame that so many Americans base a lot of their conspiracy theories on the movie Jfk.(not saying you do that Oldrambler) The whole movie was filled with trash and false info.

Agent, I agree even though I enjoyed the JFK movie, but when I saw the film of Zappruder (sp) and the shot, there is no doubt in my own mind.

The guys in the show break down the Zappruder film also. I'll try and find it on youtube.
