November 10, 200916 yr Author How'd the day go? We couldn't locate the crappie so we ended up catching some bluegill and then went to just straight bass fishing. We caught about 20 bass, all on plastics. It sure was a great day anyway. 70 degrees, wearing shorts out on the lake in the canoe on Nov. 9. :banana:
November 16, 200916 yr For anyone in the NEKY area, he sauger are really picking up below the Greenup locks and dam. Fishing for sauger,walleye usually picks up around this time of the fall and last through winter. Water levels/water clarity are the usual factors in just how good the fishing is at any given time. Right now work is being done on the main lock and all barges are having to be split up and taken hrough the smaller lock, this is creating some pretty rough, choppy water. Usual sauger baits are being used with sucsess.......3" curl tail grubs in all colors...wht.,chart, pearl are favorites, spoons, blade baits, silver buddy, jig heads tipped with minnows/shad. Spinning equipment........6 - 6 1/2 foot rods, 8-10lb. line do a good job with the plastic grub fishing

When you find their hole, you can pull them in all day, but if not, it's nothing but a cold, long day on the lake. I'm generally a bass or river-cat fisherman, but when it's good, crappie fishing is great fun. If anybody's got tips for finding them consistently, I'm all ears.

December 2, 200916 yr So where do you go and what do you use? Good luck. :thumb: I work smallies at the mouth of Gunpowder Creek in Boone County with rooster tails/spinners, although sometimes you can't do any better than a hook with a minnows or nightcrawler.

I have a hard time sometimes with minnows this time of year. I go out with my father a lot and honestly, he tends to be the minnow fan when it comes to smallmouth - of course sometimes it seems like he's one of those guys who could catch a marlin on an empty hook, so his preferences may or may not have a lot of rhyme or reason to them. We generally pick up minnows at the bait shop though. My personal "trade secret" is to hook about a third of a nightcrawler onto a spinnerbait - I like the Sonic Rooster Tail (below). Dependent on the depth of the water and the strength of the current, I might toss a lightweight sinker on about 10" above the lure as well.
