How would Trinity and St X fare in the OKI-CL (Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Catholic League)

Featured Replies

How would the Trinity and St. X fare in the OKI-CL (Ohio/Kentucky/Indiana Catholic League)? For these purposes I will define this mythical tri-state league of large Catholic all boys schools to include the following teams:

Louisville[/B]:

Trinity

St. X

Cincy:

Elder

St. X

Moeller

LaSalle

Indy:

Cathedral

[insert additonal Indy Catholic HS Football power teams(s) if any]

Cleveland:

St. Ignatius

St. Edwards

How would the Louisville big two fare over a long term basis playing apple to apple teams on a weekly basis with comparable size, resources, facilities, (values, beliefs,) etc.--500, better or worse? How many championships would you expect them to win of this league over say a 10 year period?

Should they actually consider forming this type of league or conference to play comparable competition? (Keep in mind this is comparable to the type of schedule Cincy St. X, Elder and to some extent Moeller plays now.) Other than Cleveland (which by alternating years/versus the teams could be visited once a year or could be kept separate from this league) I believe all the teams would be within a two hour drive of each other. Of course, half of games at home plus alternating year away game against in town team(s). Thoughts?

Never happen, some schools don't want apples to apples.

Why would "T" and "X" even consider doing this? The cost of travel alone would be cost prohibited and by playing in this league, they wouldn't be eligible to play in the KHSAA Football Championship.

Where is the upside for them and their fans?

Some schools like CovCath and HHS play up and still win! Your point?

CovCath wins?????:confused::confused::confused: Just kidding...:D:D

The gates would be great. I believe that this would be a money making venture. The national press would also be great. They may want to continue beating up on schools half their size or X and T could step up and play with the big boys. This championship would be more meaningful than a KHSAA title.

My point is X an T like things the way they are. They don't want to play schools like Cincy X or Moller or Elder every week. They are not going to give up winning State ever other year.

Trinity might be winless in league play. X might win a couple.

This season, most likely. Over the last few years we would have held our own. Wouldn't have come out on top near as much as we do here, but we wouldn't get destroyed on a regular basis.

This year not so good, most, very well...few...the dominate.

Maybe the KSHAA should make a team in Football move up when they win/play in the State Football Championship Game!

HHS should move up to 6A and Beechwood to 2A and NCC to 3A because they win/play in the state championship games?

Sort a like European Football (soccer) teams do! Win a league title you move up to a better league, you come in last place you move down a division!

Naw, not too many would like that idea!

BTW; When was the last time a NKy team won a Big School Title (6A/4A)?

I really don't know the answer to that one and that is why I am asking?

Or go one step further and put all the teams that play in the championship games in their own class the following year. That way there will always be five new teams winning state championships every year. Or better yet, why not do away with championships, wins and losses, keeping score, etc.. and give everybody a trophy like in funball.

The only upside I can think of would be for the other 6A teams: Manual, Male, Fern Creek, etc…

I agree. I believe you and X would be able to hold your own. Every school goes through cycles. When in a league like this, a down year would produce a losing record. However, a down year in the current format would still probably result in a championship, or good run into the playoffs. We all know a league like this would never occur, but it would produce some great games.
