Tom Payne played one year and was the first black player ever to play basketball at UK. It was not a good experience for him nor his family.

Well, if you mean the "rape conviction" then I think its safe to say we all agree on that. It certainly doesn't change how he and his family was treated.

Speaking for myself it bothers me that a coach who made Kentucky basketball what it is constantly gets criticized when I don't believe there is any substantial evidence to really depict him as a racist. Kentucky is a basketball state because of Adolph Rupp. He is someone that I have read several books about and is an extraordinary figure in college basketball yet IMO his bad reputation is unfair.

I understand all of that. I just don't get the purpose of hashing through this when I don't see the purpose. The man is not even here to defend himself and that makes it even worse. NOTHING that is said on here can be taken as fact because he is not telling you his beliefs. Anything you read here comes from what someone told some's sister who new someone that ate at the same resteraunt as Adolph.

 

I only see this as being brought up so people can make sure the perception lives on, with or without facts.
